After having plenty of punctures the last two years almost every month and mostly the rear tyre I am thinking to change brand.
I ride with Michelin Crylion Carbon 700x25. I am considering Continental Ultra Gatorskin or Schwalbe Marathon Plus.
I know Marathons are good but twice the weight, how good are the Gatorskins, any other suggestion?

Ok sorry, 48 (chainring) x 16 (freewheel/ cog) I wanted to say. I didn’t know what goes first.
Anyway, my point was: is there any additional reason for gearing down if I move to fixed. At the moment, with singlespeed freewheel, it goes quite well in London and I managed some weekend rides London to Brighton with the exception of the last hill where I had to walk :-(
What if I move to fixed? -
Thanks guys :-))
What about the gear ratio? I ride 16x48, do I need to gear down for going fixed? I was thinking something like 17x48 or 18x48?
Regarding the pedals, some times I ride the bike with normal shoes to the newsagent or to the park, would it be ok to do a just few miles on fixed with SPDs with normal shoes?

Hello to everybody since this is my first post in this forum.
I am planning to build a new rear wheel (first time builder) for my 25 miles daily London commute.
My priority is DURABILITY, and then lightness.
The current wheel’s hub is not so smooth anymore and the rim has curved from breaking.
I am thinking Formula flip/flop hubs (same as System-Ex or IRO) with cartridge bearings and 32 double butted 2.0/1.8/2.0 spokes DT or Sapim.
Now about the rim I want a Mavic but which? Open Pro or one of the CXPs 22/23/33; is any of them going to last longer to breaking wear out?
I just got for free from a friend a Michelin Crylion so I am going to use it for a while. Then I think I am going to buy the Marathons for peace of mind.
Buy the way…aboubletrapt is right about cycle paths. There are always foul of gravel and glass from broken bottles. Actually I recently used more the cycling lane than the alternative road and had plenty of punctures…and…they are never cleaned alike the roads with the special tracks. Unfortunately cycle paths are not in good condition…not to mention the big potholes and drainage on the side of the cycling lanes :-(((((
