i got a mate who rides into london every day 15 miles, a couple of builders in a transit cut him up real bad. he raced through the traffic to catch them up, over took them, jumped off his bike in the middle of the moving traffic and offered them both out. they both did up their windows and locked their doors!

one cut me up on the finchley rd one evening going home, he was up my arse for about 100 yards, then he saw his chance to overtake but almost straight away pulled up to a halt in front of me. by the time i got round him and level with his window he was taking fares from passengers getting on the bus. i banged the side of the bus as hard as i could and shouted ' FCKING WNKER' , i'm sure by the look on his face that he just let go in his underpants.

Jumping a red light or not is up to the idivdual but when it's a danger to others i think it's sefish. I was riding through a green light on the way to work one morning back last summer. i was about 50 yards off of it when it turned green, so i was able to power through the junction, as i got almost to it what i would call a proffesional type rider on a road bike, all the gear, cycle top ,shorts, clip ins etc came powering through from the other direction. ie he ran the red light. when i shouted ' you should have stopped' all i got in reply was ' fck you. Like i said a selfish attitude, i really wish i had been driving my companies transit van and wiped him out!

Thanks for the input, i had ordered one anyway so i guess it was a bit too late to cancel it, am new to fixed/ss, not riden one since i was about 8 years old. this will either kill me or make me super fit. have been on geared bikes for years and a regular rider for 3 years now, i commute to the centre of london everyday. i started with 27 gears, then went down to 12, now i am on 6 and soon 1 i guess, thanks for the advice chaps.

I used to spend a lot of time in Berlin, my ex was German. they seem to have a different attitude to traffic there. Car drivers know that cyclists and peds come first, they wait for you to cross or pass without expecting to be thanked by you. I found it very strange at first when out in the street at a crossing, there would be no cars around but everyone would wait patiently for the green man to illuminate before crossing. Cyclist are given lots of their own cycle lanes and traffic lights and they all wait for the green before they go. My ex went mad when i tried to cross before the green light, either as a ped or cyclist. I think they just have a whole different attitude towards road use/safety, or maybe they are all just too anal? In Germany although it's a large motoring nation the car doesn't seem to be king, where as here everything has to stop for the motor car and it or other road users take precident.

Back last summer whilst riding home i noticed two bicycle cops up ahead of me riding the same direction. Hadn't really noticed them on the road round my part of town so i was watching them quite closely. they crossed a major junction ahead of me at a fair speed and both promptly mounted the pavement via the crossing area for pedestrians. They then road off up the pavement in front of the local shops to the local ' police shop' ( we don't warrant a police station round my way anymore), at that point I thought wouldn't it be nice if i had my video camera in my hand and had caught all that on it!!! I wonder if you could make a citizens arrest and issue two fixed penalty notices to them?
Errrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.............let me think about that one.
