I still find it absolutely shocking that the use of torture could have been officially 'sanctioned' under/by Bush
I remember reading that, a lot of the time, the authorisation came in the form of informal memos. one request was sent to Rumsfeld about whether a particular torture technique could be used where you have to stand for a long time. He just scribbled at the bottom (alluding to his preference to stand in his office rather than sit at a desk) 'I stand for 12 hours a day, doesn't do me any harm'. -

Just tried a Selle Italia Flite Gel Flow,
http://www.wiggle.co.uk/p/cycle/7/Selle_Italia_Flite_Gel_Flow_Saddle/5360031333/
to replace my broken Specialized Toupe. The idea was to find one with a cut out, but with better build quality. Felt like my sit bones were sliding off each side during each pedal stroke. Checked the toupe, and its width is 143mm compared to the Flite's 130. How much it's also because the Flite curves down at the edges as well, I don't know. Lots of saddles seem to be around 130. I'm undecided between just getting another Toupe, or trying a slightly flatter saddle like the SLR.

OK, my experience of online retailers:
Good: Chain Reaction, Parker International (really helpful), Wiggle, Pedal On, SJS, Hub Jub, Freemans Cycles,
Hargroves cycles: bought a road bike from them in person and they were helpful, good mechanics, and still use them for repairs etc. Not used their website though.
Bad:
JE James (bought something, tried to cancel and they gave me bullshit about having to send it now I placed the order. Also online order was via an email with no possibility of seeing status of order etc. Phoned them up and they either ignore phone, pick it up and put it down again or get shirty).
Shiny Bikes (charged my card even though items not in stock)
Total Cycling (same as above) -

I'm thinking of getting some baggy shorts for commuting. I tried the 3/4 Endura but they felt too bulky and heavy. Thinking about these

and wondering if anyone's tried them or got any suggestions.
Apologies for resurrecting an old thread. Did a search and couldn't find any other threads on this specific topic.

BTW in retrospect i've just realised that this has started since I've learnt to skid i.e. been exerting really high forces in various directions on the chainring, thus bending it.
Interesting. my BB problems have started since learning to skid. The BB seems a bit loose, and the axel wobbles. It makes a knocking, grinding noise intermittently. Chainring is really worn as well, so I can't be too bothered to get it all fixed, as I'm building up a new bike. -

Graham Linehan has written about this on his blog. I just don't get the point of the story. Teenagers who survived the Dunblane shooting are behaving as normal teenagers do by getting drunk and talking to each other on facebook. What are they supposed to do, sit in sombre reflection on the tragedy and violence they once witnessed? Bizarre logic.

Cheers for the advice, I'll check out the nuun tablets. I ride fixed mostly wearing ordinary work shoes, with soft soles. I've gotten into the habit of tensing my calves when pedalling in order to get any kind of power, and carried that over to my road bike, which I think may have been a factor. Looks like I'll have to use SPDs, even though it's annoying taking a spare pair of shoes.

Wiggins should be used to riding on the road in the wet by now so I don't reckon that was a huge factor. He beat other top TTers and was on what was considered a strong time. This makes Contador's ride seem unbelievable. After getting beaten by Vinokourov in a TT in 2007, I would think Wiggins will be pretty bitter about this.

That is something like instant karma. The instant he forms the thought 'fucking cyclists, I'll push my way through, see how they like that!' he ends up smashing someone's property and getting caught on camera doing it. The fact that cyclists were endangered kind of lessens the karma aspect, though.
