yeah, looks like there's some special order arrangement via Head Fi or something. And it's upwards of $650, so no realistic chance of getting one any time soon. Still, I like that someone has actually gone ahead and built something purely for sound quality, and hopefully the idea will trickle down to sony, cowon, creative etc in a few years. I'll probably be sticking to the sony nW hd5

Just found out about this. Looks like possibly the ultimate mp3 player type device. I'm liking the fact that it looks like a brick and has no video etc. $600 though.

A bicycle tyre celebrated for winter grip somehow not suitable for putting on a bicylcle in the winter?
What has fixed got to do with anything anyhow, bicycles is bicycles, as I said its for the front anyway so no skidding.
Sorry, I just mean that the fixed is what you're most likely to use during the winter etc, not that it matters what type of bike you put them on generally. Are the 4000s celebrated for their winter grip? I think they're probably pretty good, but I jsut reckon that they're a bit expensive for a tyre that'll wear out quicker than the 4 seasons. Plus the 4 seasons is designed as a winter tyre, probably grips even more than the 4000s and costs about the same. -

All you people, just reading for fun, as if it were some sort of leisure activity, or a pleasurable thing to do; as if books were just there to make you happy, or to make you laugh, or to make you think; with no need to care about any book beyond whether or not you happen to like it...makes me sick so it does.
/Picks up some more fucking Chaucer disconsolately; puts thread on ignore.
Not sure I could cut it as a literature academic/teacher. It must be hard, when people ask what you do, and then you become 'the person who knows about literature' - like comedians always get asked to make a joke when they tell people what they do. Or maybe that's a stupid comparison.Anyway, to the person wanting recommendations on Vonnegut - I enjoyed Mother Night, and keep meaning to read Breakfast of Champions. Apparently his later stuff is less good.

Is the Capo a true track geometry bike? It looks to have a fairly high bottom bracket. If it is a track geo, then the rule of thumb that says 'go one size down from your road bike' should mean that 54 could well be correct for someone of 5'9''. However, that saddle height looks pretty high. I'm 6'2'' and I think your saddle may even be higher than mine (this is looking with the naked eye at the proportions of the distance from the top of rear wheel to the saddle). I think for someone of 5'9'' you definitely have your bike set up so that it looks like it's ridden by someone much taller.

I think cases like this make a strong argument for the presumption of guilt on the part of the driver. The driver should have to prove beyond reasonable doubt that he did not see a cyclist that was right in front of him, and who then clung to the front of his cab, banging on it. And I find it hard to believe that this particular cyclist could have behaved in a way that was 'stupid and suicidal'. He was an experienced tourer in his 40s. And if the driver saw enough of the cyclist to conclude that he was 'stupid and suicidal', how come he didn't see enough of him to see that he was running him over? And if, as a driver, you see a road user who *is *behaving erratically, do you not keep a close eye on them and make sure you try to avoid an accident?

Schwalbe Durano (Plus). Been using them in the wet for a few months. Pretty confident going into corners (apart from nearly coming down when going over a wet metal grate). Cheaper than conti 4 seasons (at around £18). I like the conti 4000s but I wouldn't use them on a fixed, as they are proper race tyres and would be wasted hacking around in the winter on them.

no, I do know my LBS well. They don't try to flog things just because they're expensive. I also read loads of reviews etc, but the SLs have basically been a well-regarded all round road wheel for years. They changed the design a bit for 2008 I think, but I hadn't read anything negative about the changes.

I was talking about the hubs specifically, but that wasn't clear. I question internet wisdom generally, and this thread is a prime example, but on this I really have an issue with it as I know lots of people who are both happy with their Ksyriums, and also have had many miles of trouble free riding on them.
I've added you to that list.
I ride the Ksyrium SLs and they are great. Been using them for over a year now and are still perfectly true. Smooth and fast. They came recommended by my LBS (=real life wisdom > internet wisdom?). -

Looks like David Curry MP has even less morals than those mythical Darth Vader cyclists which haunt his imagination.

I used to use the 38 all the time. Never saw what was so wrong with them really. Those interviews show that, unlike the way the media presented it, there was never any real popular desire to get rid of the bendy buses. Just a populist tactic by Boris Johnson, which is likely to impact London more because of the expense of replacing them.

Check Cycle Surgery, they usually have a good range, or chainreaction a bigger range but only online so ou cant try b4 you buy.
With knee warmers I find that they always slip down which is annoying.
You can always order the two sizes that you think will fit best. Try them on, return one that doesn't fit, for refund. -
+1 on looking right around and facing the car behind, making eye contact with the driver usually works. They tend to think you're going to do something then, and the arm out makes the intention even clearer. I can see this is going to be harder on a hybrid, so don't know what the answer is there.
I often don't go right over to the centre line, because that encourages drivers to think they can squeeze past to your left. I take up the centre point of where a car would be if it was taking a right. I think there's some law that vehicles coming out at a single lane junction should do so one at a time (regardless of whether it's a bike or car or whatever), so you're within your rights to take the lane.

Okay, you walk 4 miles in them then and report back on how perfectly comfortable they are :-)
Agree they are fine for walking from house to bike, around a shop or something but I am actually talking about keeping them on all day and walking around in them which is what I think the OP is talking about.
I won't be wanting to keep them on all day, it's just that my mtb shoes don't have any tread at all. I might look into the specialized or something similar in the £50 range.
Looking for one of these but can't find anywhere that sells them in the UK. This is to remove bearings from Miche hubs, which can't be pushed out with the axle. There's one made by Enduro, but only a US seller:
http://www.jensonusa.com/store/product/TL401B32-Abi+Enduro+Cartridge+Bearing+Puller.aspx?sc=FRGLUK&cc=GBP
It looks like this
Or has anyone made one? Doesn't look too complicated.
