can't believe I made this stupid move today. I'm waiting at the crossing of Hyde Park corner and there's no way of telling if the light's green because a bus and a large truck are in the two closest lanes blocking the crossing. So, I start waiting. Then I notice two cyclists make to move off around the rear of the bus and truck. So, like a twat, I decide to follow them thinking they must know this junction better than I do. Of course, the furthest two lanes are still moving (with crazy friday afternoon speed) and I have the humiliation in joining in the pathetic spectacle of three cyclists trying to cross this traffic because I'm now in the middle of the fuckingroad. 2 morals from this: 1) noone's immune from making bad judgement calls, 2) trust your own common sense and don't assume people know what the fuck they're doing.

Just wondering if anyone here commutes to Westminster and knows whether I can leave a D lock on one of the bike railing things (rather than carry it in my bag all the time). I had a vague memory of reading that Westminster council were pretty cycling unfriendly and don't want to find my lock has been removed because the council consider them untidy or something. Cheers for any help.

cheers for the responses. Might need to have a think. I'm thinking 39/18 could be annoyingly spinny on the road out to the places I'm going to. I won't be doing anything too technical, as I'll be riding singlespeed cross as opposed to MTB. I notice bikes like the Kona Major One come with a 42/18 ratio.

has there ever been any instances of someone's forum account being hacked?
this reminds me of when andrew gilligan was caught sockpuppeting.

I have another question about cable hangers. I'm building up a single speed cross bike and just about the fit the brakes. However, I've just realised that CRC haven't sent the cable hanger I ordered. Is there some workaround until I get one fitted? Could I just have the cable going from just past the bar tape to the straddle cable holder?

The New Pompino just waiting for me to find my BB tool, straddle wires and flip that stem the right way up. Proper photies when my camera is back from repairs.
Like to see how this looks when finished. I've just ordered one, so trying to work out how it's going to be set up. What size tyres are you running? On One's website says the frame can take up to 32mm, but I'm sure I've seen some pompinos with 35mm tyres. -
No offence, but there's so much heresay and rumour in there that not a newspaper in the land could publish it. Yes, I'm sure the sport has skeletons in the closet, but I'm just completely unconvinced that Lance has come back to the sport and been doping.
What is it exactly that you're not convinced about? That he is doping now, or that he doped to win his 7 tdfs? Because you don't have to look far to turn up some pretty suspect behaviour during his main career. -

After reading Bad Blood and following cycling a bit more closely, it seems to be a very dirty sport. The whole of Armstrong's behaviour (from his relationship with Ferrari, to his bizarre chasing down of Simeoni, his donations to 'anti-doping' programmes, and his confession to a doctor when he was being treated for cancer that he'd taken a string of banned substances) looks pretty suspect. Then, when he makes his return to cycling, he goes to Astana.

Have you got the release tension set at minimum on the left pedal?
I've been having difficulty with my Time ATAC Roc pedals. Compared to my old SPDs they actually have a lot less float, and I've been getting aching knees and ankles for days after riding. This impression might be because my old SPDs pedals/cleats were quite worn, I suppose. Also, my shoes have some tread which probably means that once you clip in, the tread kind of holds your foot in one position.
The Time pedals have become easier to use, though, and I do like the positive feeling and the slightly more connected feel to the pedals. But they still don't match the ease of clipping in and out that SPDs have.

that's what i thought too. i was thinking that they were idiots for not seeing the irony in the lyric "fuck you i wont do what you tell me". but then i thought - but what if it fails ? and the thought of the moronic x-factor dross being a greater part of society than the anti-moronic x-factor dross vote alarmed me - so i bought a copy and a gift copy for my girlfriend.
i fucking hate simon cowell and the shite that his circus of a show spews out and i hate the audience for essentially legitimising laughing at mentally ill people, which is what the whole x-factor thing seems like to me.
bring back xmas number ones from when it was some eccentric weirdos battling out some inane novelty records. that's what an xmas number one should be in my opinion.
+1I just heard the interview with Tom Morello who seems articulate and realises that this is not so much about RATM as such. Also, apparently the profits are going to go towards some music groups/charities that do loads more to actually encourage kids with real talent, as opposed to the bland shite that is the X Factor. For that reason, I'm downloading this track (actually one of my least favourite when I was a teenager and had this album). Another reason is that I hate the humiliation of these shows and the laughing at disturbed people that the audience do, goaded on by loathsome tv types.

I just go off road on my track frame! As long as the tyres are tough enough I don't find a lot of difference between a track frame and a cyclocross frame in use. Clearly this is for pleasure and I am not racing.
Mud clearance could be an issue if you ran brakes I suppose but my riding is fireroad and hard pack singletrack so mud is not usually much of an issue.
Just allows me to ride off road without having to need a specific bike and that suits me.
So you run a brakeless track bike off road? I'm looking to ride some off road at the moment but only have a road bike and a track bike. I suppose I could fit 25mm tires on the track frame, but can't see anything other than smooth hard pack being a possibility. -

the axle doesn't have the slightly raised section with which to push out the bearing. There's a thread about it here
http://www.londonfgss.com/thread3808.html
I'm replacing them cos they're starting to make noises (although strangely they've gone away now and I've ridden through 2-3 weeks of rain without the noise coming back).
