Don't know if everyone will class this as Porn, sentiment is attractive.
Didn't want to start a new thread just for this, so chucking it in here...TBH when i'm not riding my bike, i'm quite happy supposedly destroying the planet with my gas guzzling behemoth...
I do however think that 'burning bike thieves' would be a better sentiment to have on the bike lock.
Though not sure those "cheese-alloy" links are going to stop london's miscreant fraternity.

from experience (ie having ridden a litespeed vortex for 7 years) a ti frame has a ride quality like steel - ie not dead like aluminium or carbon, can built at a lighter weight and with a brushed finish and etched graphics, it'll look as good in 10 years as it does when you first get it and it'll have the same ride quality years down the line too.

i have to agree that the vanilla bikes look the absolute business but if i had one it'd probably be a fixed and spend it's life hanging on the livingroom wall.
For something which might arrive this year and take a lifetime of riding have a look at Lynskey Performance (look at the us site for the full range) - they were the family who originally owned litespeed and what they don't know about fabricating titanium probably isn't worth knowing. They've got a pretty extensive build programme, from house blends to full custom.

If i had pennies to spend on new bikes, they be building me something from their top drawer - i particularly like the idea of the helical tubes.
other than that the only other bike i'd part with money for at this moment is a Cat Cheetah.

On the off chance that someone has got money to burn.
I've got a Zipp 606 wheel set for sale.Had them from new, done a handful of sprint distance, 1 oly tri and around 12 laps of RP on them - so <300km.
Tubular version with red tufo tubs and shimano 9spd cassette, skewers not included - because they didn't come with any.
Don't get to use them as i now ride a tt bike with 650c's and can't really justify using them to ponce around RP.
Cost over £1300, looking for £840 including postage, not really looking to haggle.
Will accept Paypal. -

hmmm...
I bought a pair of the shimano DX ones a while back thinking they might be a good trade off between skate shoe looks and spd friendly function but to be honest, they're keeping their 'new' looks a bit too long - and they're also bit dorky - i a kind of 'i need these to straighten out my odd shaped ankles' way.The pub test last sunday night proved this theory - with lots of smirkey looks from unwashed box-room-masturbator-student-types.
oh and the spd-jesus-creepers - wrong on too many levels.
Though it's tempting to buy a pair and wear them with chunky socks and my WAC shirt. -
Giro Ionos and Atmos for me. Good fit, reasonable looks, plenty of ventilation.
The only downside is that you can't remove the straps to give them a soak - which is an issue if you regularly ride hard - as the straps get caked with salty sweat. As far as hitting peds goes - some idiot stepped out into the road at last years london tri. We were nailing it along towards tower bridge and the guy <10m in front of me had it to deal with.
It happens SO quickly there's almost nothing which can be done. Ped steps out, rider shouts, swerves, ped steps back/stops, rider hits him. I think the front wheel made contact first, but then it was a kind of endo with the guy's shoulder and head doing the damage. He just pile drove(?) straight into him.
The ped went down like a sack of shit and was spark out on the deck, with the rider going down too. But was able to jump up, grab his bike. It was a race and there were enough people around to deal with it so we carried on (london entry is big coin so you don't want to be wasting it). After the turn around we passed the ped. He was back in the world of the living, sitting on the kerb, but his face looked like someone had given him a lick of post box gloss.
Point being, you can have a plan, but if it happens that quickly all you can do is go with gravity and make sure you've got something on your head.

hey VB,
Shirts arrived this morning, very pleased indeed. No longer walking around naked, though they're not quite long enough to cover my plonker. The lady wife especially likes the wac - most appropriate apparently.
PS put me down for another (1x) "Medium Bamboo rabbit" when the dust settles.
top stuff all round.

IMHO it's all about common sense - if you do lots of cycling you kinda know what's appropriate wear. I usually go full roadie lycra when getting the miles in on my road bike, a mankini when doing tri and usually a t-shirt and cargo shorts with cycling shorts under them when planking around on my fix/ss.
the folk who get it arse-about-face and also the ones who'd make inappropriate use of serif typefaces, clipart and animated gifs - so it's very little to do with being gay or not.
the true sign of being gay is either riding a mountain bike with tribars or wearing pants under your lycra - though offenders of the first will usually be doing the second too.

i'm doing London (again) this year - sub 2.30 olympic distance race.
As always, it would seem that a bit of knowledge about things is usually worse than no knowledge at all. ;-)
Most of the folks in my tri club are either good runners (<17min 5k) or good cyclists (55min 25mile tt'ers), most of those top cyclists will skin you alive on the bike, many also ride, local tt's, crits and road races. A huge percentage of our club also ride either fixed or SS too.
One club mate even 'cruised' around Windsor Tri on a single speed last year for a laugh and still clocked a total time of 02:18.
The fashion crimes are function rather than fashion statements - a one piece (or two piece if you have the six pack) garment means you don't need to fuck around changing in transition, just swim, ride and run - taking time only to change shoes.
The only time you might stretch on the bike is if you're going long - half or full ironman. If you're doing sprint and olympic distance (40km/20km bike) you'll be going as hard as you can for the full distance.
As a guide to "good average" times for an olympic distance race - around 25mins for the swim 1500m, 01:05 for the bike - 40k and 45min for the run - 10km
The tribar folk you generally see in RP (mtbs with tribars etc) are usually tri newbies - "look at me i'm doing a triathlon and have got the tribars to prove it" - these people are not indicative of the triathlon hardcore.
It's a bit like saying all that the hardcore of Fixedgear/SS all ride london edition langsters.
Most triathletes will be riding a regular road bike, ss or fixedwheel around richmond park - err without tribars.

Righto - if the Gilden Small is the same Gilden Small as used for the Rollerpalooza shirts - i'll stick with my order as it is.
The Gilden S i've got is a close, but not uncomfortable fit.
For info I've just measured my chest (with a t-shirt on) and i'm just under 40" - so hope this helps clarify things for those who aren't sure.
-
Hi VB,
Don't want to be a pain in the asre, but a 41cm pit to pit small has me a little worried - as all of my small (cotton) shirts are in the 46-47cm range - a Small rollerpalooza being 47cm - which is just about right. If the final Smalls are in this region (45 - 47cm p-t-p) i'm ok, but if you're going down to 41cm p-t-p i'll need to change my order to mediums.
I've not changed anything yet - but if you could clarify the final p-t-p sizes (of smalls and mediums) i'd really appreciate it.
cheers, ds -
never pedal struck riding fixed, but i'm another one who had a moment at Eastway - few laps into the race, first corner after the start/finish - was right on the inside, in the bunch, pedaled through the corner, caught a pedal strike and the back wheel jumped off the road, i nearly bit a chunk out of the saddle and from the gasps and "oh, shits!" from the guys behind me - so did they. As it happened I didn't hit the deck and take them all with me, but fook know how.

if you're buying from the states R&A Cycles in brooklyn is the place to use.
a cavern of cycle bling, nearly everything in every size, pretty good prices and fast 3day shipping.
I saved a truck load on my tri bike frame
Let just say that they want to sell to UK customers and know the score as far as 'additional costs' are concerned...

thanks for the offers, all pm's replied to...
