^^ To be honest i havent had to remove the rear since i fitted the guards 300miles ago due to the roads i ride are almost totally free from glass thorns etc... but i cant imagine it being to difficult as the guards are pretty flexable and the stays are only held on by 8mm nuts which i could loosen fairly easily if required. The tires are 28c continental citycontact's and have plenty of clearance. I squeezed a 35c tire in the front when i was fitting the guards but i did have to hack the guards about in order for it not to rub, but i would recon a 32c's would work ok. The guards are sks chromoplastic p45's.

Hey, yeah i just used some p-clips i found in the garage, but i didnt measure them. Im running a miche track hub and the chainline is ever so slightly out but the bike runs as smooth as butter so its never worried me, ive read a few places that the omniums dont ever quite line up perfecly, but i aint no track racer so i didnt worry about it.

Hey, im just putting together a list of all the parts i need for my new 29er project. I would like everything to be silver or polished, which isnt normally a problem. But i seem to have hit a wall when it comes to finding silver rims. The only ones i know of are the salsa semi rims, but for £80 a rim i'd rather not. I guess my other choice is going for a touring rim, something like a Mavic a119/a319 or maybe a Halo White line, would these stand up to light trail riding or fold faster than superman on laundry day? Or can anyone suggest any alternatives?
many thanks

Hi,
I have this silver Thomson stem but im changing bikes and i now need a black one to match my new black Thomson post.
Its a Thomson Elite stem. 110mm long, 5 degree rise and a 25.4mm clamp. I would like to swap it for a black Thomson stem of roughly the same length and rise.
I live it Tamworth in Staffordshire so i guess the trade would have to be done by post.
Here is a pic;
Thanks

Thanks for all the replies.
I really do want this job for a few reasons, firstly there are no other bike shops in my area so i dont have the choice of where i would like to work and im fed up of working in warehouses. I spend most of my time riding bmx and have done for the 8/9 years now and my town has just had a new skate park built which has lead to a massive increase in the number of bmxers. I would like to maybe influence the managment into stocking better bmx parts which might help the scene out a little.
But more than anything i just enjoy working on bikes, maybe one day i will start my own bike shop who knows? -
Dear persons of this forum,
Firstly im very sorry for the dull thread, but i believe that some of you guys might be able to help me out.
This question goes out to all the folk on here who work in or own bike shops.Im in the process of appling for a job as a bike mechanic with my local Halfords store. I passed the first interview and my second interview is on monday. I have been told this second interview is made up of one hours worth of technical proficiency questions and one hours worth of hands on bike mechanics.
I would class my self as a very confident bike mechanic but i have never worked in a shop before, i have alot of experience working on all types of bikes old and new.
But i was wondering if there is any techniques that i may not use as a home mechanic but would be expected to know for use on customer bikes?
As a car mechanic i torque almost every bolt i get to but is this something that is done on bikes? because i never have!
Any help, handy tips or suggestions would be great!! As i would really like to get this job!
Many thanks

And, for a "form follows function" exercise, this is quite brilliant.
The reason this looks so big is due to the 36 inch wheels it has. Im very surprised that you guys didnt know about these beasts.

Well, it says they arent Fbm's they are under the name of the Take;
http://www.thetakeonlife.com/news.php
Which is a company who has its bmx frames made by Fbm. I think its a similar business deal to that of S&M and Fit have.
Ive finally upgraded to a modern road bike so im selling all my old bits.
Arthur Caygill road frame. Columbus Slx New tubing.
It sizes as so;
Seat tube, centre to centre-57.5cm, centre to top-60cm
Top tube, centre to centre-57cm
130mm rear 100mm front spacing
It comes with the forks, cheapo but smooth bb and a smooth stronglight delta headset.
This is a well used frame with its fair share of scratches. The worst bit was the top tube which i sanded back and resprayed in a matte red colour(the closest colour i had to hand). But the frame is nice and straight and rides very well and all the threads are fine. It could do with a new seat binder bolt and the braze on cable guides under the bb have taken a knock in the past but the cables still run through them perfectly.
