Oooooh, interesting, thanks chaps. Like you say Jos, I seem to be magnetically drawn to my roots ;-)
Can't wait to pick it up and start building. I'm thinking pale blue, maybe metallic, frame. Black seat-post, black stem and black bullhorn bars with brown Brooks saddle and brown leather bar tape. Black hubs and rims. Possibly a darker slate blue for the frame or even a sort of metallic brown/rust. Hmmm, decisions, decisions...

Banana up the tailpipe does work but not immediately, takes a few minutes. If there's nowhere for the exhaust gases to go they'll either choke the engine causing it to stall and die (until the banana is removed and engine started again) or if it's not a firm fit the build up of exhaust gases will fire the 'nana out of the pipe.
I believe addresses can be obtained from the DVLA with the reg and model of the vehicle. Not sure how it works but think you have to approach them as a prospective buyer (just give them false ID info) so it's a security check.

Thanks for all the replies chaps. It all makes sense (even the ghey banter - I'm used to a motorbike forum called visordown, notorious for its merciless banter...). I've got a hack, steel, made out of scaffold poles, has 'Made in Vietnam' stamped on the bottom bracket and weighs about as much as an SUV but it's geared and I've been wanting to try SS or FW. Suppose I could always get one but use it like Sunday best.

Firstly 'hello' all. I'm getting back into cycling after a very long break, about 13 years to be precise. And was thinking about treating myself to a nice single-speed steely with sexy lugs. But I was reading the stolen thread on this forum and was shocked to see how many bikes get nicked. What's the best way to secure your bike, is there a lock out there that's really worth investing in? Is it really worth having a tasty bike in London, aren't you always thinking 'what if' when you lock it up and walk away?
Ahoy there! I'm between Cambersmell and Peckham near the Art School but prior to that was a Camberwellian for about 7 years or so. Do you know The Hermits Cave? I used to spend so much time there my mates started to refer to it as 'the front room'.
