I'm planning on getting a Fuji Track, so will need to buy a front brake as they don't come with brakes. To carry the bike into my flat it makes life so much easier to whip the front wheel out so intend to make that quick-release. Most front brakes I've seen have the cable end bolted tight in, no good for quick-release, which brakes don't? Thanks.

I'm getting rid of my geared beater but want to keep the lovely Brooks saddle so need a cheap replacement (5-10 dorra top plice) to sell the bike. It doesn't really matter what it is, ideally black and you can sit on it are the only requirements. I'll be at south London drinkies on Monday if any of the misfits want to flog me one? All offers appreciated. Ta muchly.

Hey Joel, pick up a Fuji Track, £300 (or less at some places)... You'll have no problem selling it on once you've built the Gazelle up...
Good call Joe. Will look into this, have seen an online shop doing them for 315, which seems pretty good for what would be an A to B machine. Still liking the look of the Lager although 40/50 more, plus it has bullhorns as standard, which I tend to prefer position-wise. Hmmm.

If you have, or even if you haven't, just wondered what your thoughts on the ride/bike were/are? As I'm currently looking for a reasonably priced beater and both of these seem to be the cheapest out there for OTP coming in at 350 squids each. Both quite different, one steel one ally, but would like to hear your thoughts/opinions. Cheers.

Made it this time albeit short but sweet, just like me. Great to see teenslain, after all these years, very cool in a freaky universemagorial way. Good to meet 50/14, VB, RPM, hillbilly and others whose names I'm afraid I've already forgotten. Cornelius you're a fellow writer aren't you? Must chat more about that next time.
Pip, pip,

Hey motman, Chris Penter's really good too... He's in Clapham Common...
http://www.claphamcommonclinic.co.uk/natural_health_treatments/chiropractic.htmlWas it me that recommended him to you? I have a vague memory of doing so in the dim and distant past. Seconded, he's a top bloke who knows a lot about sporting injuries.

Could have done this on the 'scrotal mashing' thread but didn't want to threadjack it. Just bought a new standard B17 Brooks saddle and was after some advice:
How long do they take to wear/break in?
How do you look after them?
What's the adjustment nut at the front of the saddle for, like when/why would you want to adjust it?Fanks.

True, proper over the shoulder safety check is the safe way forward. In fact thinking about it I was already starting to think lazy with the mirror i.e. 'cool, now I won't need to keep looking over my shoulder but just now and then...'
You may have uncovered a slippery slope chaps. That's it - the mirror gets it! (Fret not it won't be wasted as it's small enough to fix to the end of my shoe for looking up girl's skirts).

Just fitted one of those small round handlebar end mirrors to my everyday hack/commuter/beater (geared not SS). It doesn't replace a proper 'over the shoulder' safety check but it does give a good view of what's approaching on the outside, for London riding it also gives a good idea of how close the car/vehicle behind is to your back wheel. It's practical but I'm not entirely convinced it's not ever so slightly 'ghey' in a man-bag sort of way.
Any of you lot ever used one or thought about it?

JOL that Phallic logo awards link is pure class! Sorry, just my childish mind. Plus I work in a related industry so am constantly looking for ways to spice the day up a bit. For example, got to say to a client 'I'd invite you to pull my cracker' when presenting a potential new Facebook App. plus with a video script that involved someone throwing something to one side managed to say 'toss' and 'tossing' about 14 times in one 30 min presentation without cracking up. It's the little things in life - just like CB's 'north sea willy' logo. I'll shut up now.

Ancestors were Dutch hence 'Uden' and after doing a bit of research into my surname I discovered that years ago there would have been a 'Van' in front of it ('Van' meaning 'from' and 'Uden' being a place in Holland, how the Dutch name themselves apparently). So, I put it back. Plus I think it sounds kind of cool like a really cool thing.
And I like the perversity of naming myself after an arch nemesis of all cyclists 'The Van' on a cycling forum.

bikenut when taking my bike in through the reception at work some fat lardy arsed manager thinking he was being amusing saying ' get off and milk it' , Ha fcking ha! he has to get the lift up to the 1st floor cause he's too lazy to walk, too much fcking red wine and resturant food.
Allow me to shed some light. I think he may have been referring to a famous (if you're over 35) quote that John Wayne was alleged to have said in one of his Westerns but apparently never did:
"Get off your horse and drink your milk." — a character played by John Wayne in one of his root'n, toot'n, shoot'n, yarns

Aaah, true. Hadn't thought of that. Trying to get a QR axle into the Fuji hub may not work. Hmmm, bugger.
Maybe I just have to find new contorted positions to negotiate the stairs into my flat with...
