And finally I'm going back to rowing to get fit.
its awesome and the Thames is the ideal venue. That is all.
Such a casual decision about a sport filled with pain, erg test fear, social life crippling early starts at weekends, and training sessions that mainly include how close you can get to making your lungs jump out of your mouth. It isn't always awesome when you are hacking up the Thames on a shit day as the wash from a twat in a launch breaks over your rigger and into the boat to make you cold and grumpy!
Cracking sport mind. It is glorious to be out on the river when it is quiet and side by side racing in the summer is great.
Surely gig racing is the fixed version of rowing?

Not a show, but very much in the same vein, did anyone have a copy of this?
Some cracking stories for children. The girl who plays with matches burns to death, the boy who sucks his thumb has both of them cut off, the boy who doesn't eat his tea starves to death, the boys who make fun of the black boy are dunked in an inkwell. Retrospectively hilarious. I remember being a little unsettled at the time though.

Did they?
Yes, they did. Apologies for delayed response. Some needed a little more cajoling than others, and some made it despite having made some shocking bike choices. Two brothers made it all the way on £99 bikes from 'King Of Bikes' in Neasden. The bikes were utter crap, barely roadworthy. A demonstration though of their determination conquering their shortcomings in the kit dept.
We will have collected all monies sometime in Sept when term starts again. The estimated total is about £8k for charity, so a worthwhile endeavour. I am intending to mount another trip next year to a different destination. There was great value for the kids in learning not only some basic cycling and maintainence skills, but in what they could do if they put their mind to it (or, more realistically, I gave 'firm' encouragement knowing that they could do it). None of the 12 that we took had any real cycling experience beforehand (a rather sorry reflection of many children in London these days I suspect) and all expressed an interest in cycling as a regular activity now.
Yaks- sorry, I can't maake good on my initial offer of route files as am writing this from NYC and all the info is on my computer at home. Sorry and good luck.

I am away in NYC from 13th July until 27th Aug. If anyone is interested, I am looking to let my room whilst I am away.
I live just round the corner from the Emirates Stadium / Arsenal tube. It is a 4 bed house with three lovely friends, a cat called Ruby, and a sunny garden. Bike friendly is a given!
It is a nice room with a super comfy bed that I just brought. I am willing to negotiate on the rent.
Let me know if you or someone you know might be interested.
Joe

I am cycling L-P with a group of pupils from my school in order to raise a load of cash for charity. We are leaving this Sunday. Because it is with kids, I have had to be V precise with my planning - choosing a quiet ish route etc. I have google map links or publisher or pdf files of the route that I have turned into booklets for each rider. You are more than welcome to these if they would be of use. Just let me know. I will be able to tell you next week whether the maps are any good and if the kids make it.

Teddy, did you have an luck? I also have a Mercian frame and have ahd the seatpost in the same place for ages as a result of it being fine and also becasue I don't have an allen key for it. However yesterday, my bike took a slight knock and the seat post moved so I would like to tighten it. If I can get a key, I'll also take the post out to clean etc.
Could you let me know if you found one in a shop or if you managed to borrow one from somewhere.
Thanks
Joe
