I live in New Cross Gate and would seem like a good fit for your criteria. Direct to Crystal Palace on the newly reopened overground and easily cyclable into town. I work by St Paul's and it takes me under 20 mins. I brought in NXG as is was a really affordable place for a first time buy. So far, I've nothing but good things to say. A couple of decent boozers, telegraph hill park is nice, a conveniently placed Sainsburys, interesting stuff in Deptford, nice stuff in Greenwich, close to ride to town, but also convenient transport links. I think you should find somewhere in budget as well.

Cliveo, like this?

Apologies if a repost, I CBA to read all 7 pages of whether lycra is OK!

Isn't Ironmonger totally closed for the refurb? I've been avoiding it for ages because I thought they were doing the whole thing.
Sorry Fox, my mistake, you're right, the whole place is closed. I thought it was the baths as I wanted to go for a steam and sauna the other week and saw that they were closed, I didn't read carefully enough...

Well, his main question was whether anyone else stocked Rapha apart from Rapha. That he wants to know this because he's after a discontinued jersey is of course relevant, but he's right, his first question still wasn't answered:

XL or XXL only. This may well help answer the question...

Hi all, thanks so much for replies. I'm currently in Portree with a coffee and an OS map, the sun is shining and the scenery is spectacular. I'm going to ride the loop around the north of the Island tomorrow morning as an introduction to the island. There is limited phone interweb but I'll report back when I can. Thanks again

Hi all,
Has anyone any experience of cycling on Skye? I am going there for a week and am going to take my bike with me to get some riding in. I have high hopes for great scenery and quiet roads. I am less confident about the weather.
I've never been so if anyone has any tips on good rides there they would be most welcome. TBH, after a look at google, there are not heaps and heaps of roads, I think that it is more likely that I will follow the coast roads and see how I get on. There do look to be some very senic stretches of single track to explore as well. But, if you know a good place then I'd be delighted to hear from you.
Any non cycling suggestions about places to eat, places to go etc would also be most welcome.
Thanks
Joe

I was just reading this:

The website for the company: http://www.kiperformance.co.uk/
and thought of this thread. I'm not sure I'd want to buy a subscription, but it would be interesting to have a go for a couple of days.

Piss poor IMHO and pretty unusual for BJJ places from my (admittedly not huge) experience. I'd definitely try somewhere else. Whereabouts are you located?
I live in New Cross Gate, after the experience above, I have emailed this guy:
about going to train twice a week in Stockwell. Haven't had a reply yet. Does anyone train there? Have any experiences / recommendations of where to train in london?

I went to a BJJ class tonight with a mate. My mate has been training for the last couple of months in Portugal whilst he has been there. We picked a gym and emailed them to get ourselves into an introductory class. After the warm up, the instructor demonstrated a move a couple of times and then people paired up to practice it.
As a relative beginner and a complete beginner, we were not exactly perfect. When we asked for a bit of assistance, the instructor told us that he wouldn't help us as we had not committed to the gym, that he had to help the others, and that anyway, he was part way through a cycle of techniques and we should try to get on with it. The result was that we grappled and watched others as best we could for about 40mins of a 1hr class.
I thought that this was pretty piss poor, and am unlikely to return as a result. Is this usual? Or would I be better off trying a couple of places?

A shameless plug:
My friend and current flatmate is a journalist and filmmaker. After time spent in Afghanistan writing for different newspapers, he has also made a film about the Afghan cricket team and their rebirth in the wake of the current mess in the country. The website has the trailer:
The film was shown at the Edinburgh film festival recently and they are currently looking for distributors. It will be shown on the BBC later this year. Having watched it myself, I can recommend it as a great piece. Very involving and not at all political. Just a great story of human endeavour. He (my friend TIm) is currently holed up at my house finishing the book of the film.

@ tofeel - thanks, but I'm after a ready to ride bike.
@number6- what snoops said. The bike is lovely and a perfect size. Are you selling it on?

I am looking for a bike for my girlfriend. The problem with a lot of the second hand stuff I have seen is that it is too big - she is 5ft 2. So ideally, would be best off on a 16 or 17 inch frame. 650 / 26' wheels would also help, as the frame could be slightly bigger.
I have no preference on style / make / model etc as long as it is in reasonable condition. I am also not looking to convert to fixed /ss so dropouts are not an issue.
Finally, I have set a side a nominal £150 to buy a bike and get it on the road.
If you have anything you think might do the job and you are looking to get rid of then drop me a line.
Thanks
Joe

I allowed myself to 'laugh out loud' over this:

^brilliant stuff. I think you need to show the establishment just how far the "all you can eat' concept can be stretched.
This news just in. I have paid the bill and left. Two of the boys are eating head to head. They have both eaten:
1 x bruschetta
1 x garlic bread
1 x pasta dish
2 x 10 inch pizzaIt is getting serious. The loser has to ride all day tomorrow in bibshorts only regardless of weather. The rest of the party has stayed in situ to offer advice. One of the participants is already upset as he dieted hard before the trip and this is the subject of much sledging.
NB - fatloss thread: he followed the Dukan diet.
Maybe the LATFH thread? I'm sure I've seen a photo of a guy with that on a cardboard disc for his wheel. I've had a quick look, but can't find it / remember where it was.
