I rode through this junction last night.
You are right Tea_Bee that it is not obvious that when exiting from Greenwich that the traffic opposite you is also on a green light. This is exacerbated by the fact that their stop line and lights are about 15yds back from the actual junction as there is space for turning buses to park. What this means is that as you move away from the lights turning right back towards New Cross the oncoming traffic takes a bit more time to reach the junction. This in turn means that vehicles have picked up a little more speed / will be expecting to shoot straight across if that is their intention. So, in short, I agree with you, it is a far from perfect set up. The whole Deptford Bridge interchange is a bit like that though. A lot of cars jostling for position at a multi laned junction that isn't perfectly signed.
Lynx makes a fair point though - there is only so much traffic coming out of a residential development. Although it only needs one car etc. Secondly, Lynx, is it def only into the development. Google shows it as such, but has the road been linked through on the other side to brrokmill rd?

I haven't got any swrve bottoms to compare, im a 36 waist, but have large thighs, so tend to go to 38", depends on the cut. I'll be in touch if they are no good and all the 36" have gone. Think Pablo is posting today, so will know soon enough.
Hi Pablo,
I light of this ^ I'm gonna undibs. I often struggle with thigh sizing on shorts that are the right fit on the waist. Seeing as these are going quick, and I'm not in a position to go try a pair on, I'll let the next in line snap up a bargain.
Apologies for any inconvenience.

In 1984 I got a little red bike for my birthday. I loved it so much that after a day of riding it about, I asked my dad to bring it up to my bedroom and lean it against the wall so I could keep an eye on it whilst I was in bed. Bright times indeed.
There were an awful lot of tears when Dad's mate accidentally ran it over on the drive with his van.

I have a nice Caygill track frame. It has a chorus headset and BB fitted that are both fine. It has lovely ovalised columbus tubing, fillet braised, stainless dropouts. Interested? It is a real beaut, and I have been thinking about offloading it for a while. I don't have any pics to hand, but you are welcome to come over and have a look if you are London based. PM me.
Cheers

Go to TK Maxx and get one cheap as chips - they have a lot of good stuff in there-you'll know it when you see it.
I think you might have missed the point a bit bigtwin. I said above that I was looking for something bike specific and pointed out some features that I'd like. I'm not sure TK will have a cheap Bagaboo or belk or Bailey Works. What they will have is cheap rucksacks of generic designs or intended for walking - I have a Berghaus for walking and an Alpkit for lightweight stuff so that isn't really what I'm after.

Instead of starting a new thread, I thought I'd lazarus this one. There is the comprehensive messenger bags list from GA2G, but I couldn't find the equivalent for backpack / rucksack / twin strap / whatever you want to call them bags.
I have a large Project Tortoise bag that I've had for about three or four years now and it is great. Lately though, I've been suffering a bit from discomfort and a feeling of it not quite being right. I'm thinking of switching to a decent cycle specific rucksack after trialling an old rucksack (Alpkit) as a run around alternative. The load balance seems fine, but it lacks some of the neat features of a messenger bag / cycle specific bag - specifically, a good pocket layout, durable waterproof materials, neat touches like compression straps, light loops, key clip etc etc
So, market research: I like the look of the Bailey works citizen, and the Mission Workshop Rambler / Vandal seen to be getting really good press as setting the standard at the minute. I know a lot of people like the ortlieb bags for simplicity.
Requests:
- Do you own a really good rucksack that you would reccommend? If so, what is it and why do you like it so much?
- Paging GA2G - would you consider turning your talents to a list that this could be merged to? It might be a useful alternative resource to the single strap list.
- If I have effected a UTFS fail, feel free to point out this fact.

As the title says really. I have a spare for tonight as someone has dropped out. If you like your music delivered to you by blokes who should know better and have certainly been about too long but know a thing or two about tunes that invoke memories of misspent evenings of a more innocent time then PM this afternoon and the ticket is yours.

I had breakfast at the Deptford Project this morning, and wandered into the yard at the back to check out their silent cinema and found a new bike shop / workshop. They are only just getting going and will be doing some bespoke builds as well as reconditioning stuff whilst working with people in the community. It looks great.
They have a website with some information on: http://www.unioncycleworks.org.uk/

Hi all,
One of my current flatmates is moving out at the start of september and I need to replace him. I am looking for either a single person or a couple to move into the double bedroom in my house.
The house is mine, it is a Victorain terrace, and was fully refurbished before we moved in earlier in the year. I am 29, male, a secondary school teacher.
Estate agent bit: downstairs, there is a nice eat in kitchen (range cooker, dishwasher, washing machine etc etc), large lounge (with sky tv) and dining area, conservatory, garden, downstairs toilet, large cellar to store junk. Upstairs are three double bedrooms and bathroom. The available room is a nice double which is furnished. We have wifi throughout the house. We also have a cleaner who comes twice a week who cleans communal areas. There is heaps of bike storage, and a healthy selection of tools and bike crap at your disposal!
The house is on a nice quiet residential street and we get on well with the neighbours on both sides. It is a 5 min walk to the station. To get to/ from the station, you have to walk past a large Sainsbury's which is really convenient. New Cross Gate station has trains direct to London Bridge (5mins) and trains on the newly reopened East London Line that going north connects to the tube at Canada Water and Whitechapel then onwards through Shoreditch to Dalston and Highbury. On my bike, it takes me just under 20 mins to cycle to the city.
It is a spacious and friendly house. Any prospective resident would join me and the another couple who I live with. We’re all in full time employment, relatively tidy and quiet but do enjoy having people over for dinner, going out etc at the weekend. We cook a lot and everybody gets on well and there is a relaxed communal atmosphere in the house.
If you are looking for somewhere, or know someone who is, then comment here, drop me a PM, or email me at jtsilvester at hotmail dot com
The room is available from the 8th September. Rent is £450 plus share of bills. Viewings welcome.
Cheers

The whole gear apartheid thing is ridiculous.
The forum was conceived by a London-based cyclist and bike enthusiast, and like minds got on board very quickly. We all rode fixed, but for the most part we also had experience of riding with a freewheel, with gears, on and offroad, etc.
This meant there was a broad collective knowledge base, as well as a more well-rounded life experience than certain other more monomaniacal bike forums/communities, and was probably the secondary reason for the exponential growth of the place (the tertiary reason being synchronicity with the 'fixie' trend, and the primary reason being that I post here and you fucking love it).
+1 to this. Whilst not exactly a prolific poster, (although I have been a member of the community for quite a long time) I feel that I have learnt a lot from it and gained a lot from it, and this is precisely the reason I am happy to donate to the forum running costs. I have no problem whatsoever with the redesign and simplification suggestion, but would object to the segregation or shunning of geared stuff or other types of cycling. As other people have pointed out, lots of good things come from a variety of different areas of cycling and lots of people here enjoy a variety of types of cycling The n+1 equation is testament to this.
Not so long ago, I recall a post from Ed responding to a newcomer (on a ladies thread I think). She expressed her nascent enjoyment of cycling and the forum, but also admitted that she did not ride a fg or ss bike. Ed was supportive and welcomed her to a broad church that was as much about cycling and love thereof that being anything too exclusive. I see no reason why this should not be the way.
For all the bitching and moaning and the large numbers of unique users, there is really a core of people who contribute a lot, and unsurprisingly it is those people who are expressing opinions on here about the site. Long may the site and community continue. It has opened up a whole load of ideas and people to me that I might not otherwise have met.
Oh, and as an afterthought, I have no real objections to charging for classifieds. Not too much though, as one of the nice things about classifieds is that odd things pop up from people that you might not otherwise think about wasting your hard earned on. Don't discourage this, it's fun!

Granted, it is a nice enough mag, but £500? Pretty fucking pricey.
Carry on.
