I really like the hack.. I've been using zip ties and toestraps.
Can you be bothered to add this to the 'uses for inner tube' thread - I'm sure it's buried here somewhere...?ziptie busted my rear light yesterday. I look forward to this technique doing the same in about 14 days! but you know I'm going to rush home and try it!

I know this is a "cycle to work" thread, but I'm interested to know what people would do if they had to attend some sort of black tie/smart suit event with no chance of getting changed on arrival.
I like to minimise my public transport usage but I think that would be inconvenient enough to warrant taking a bus, tube, or even a cab.
Ideally you need friends dotted around the city so you can cycle to their house, get changed then take a 5-10 minute walk to wherever you need to go (enough time to down a couple of cans? Get the party started early?)
I usually have my *man *go on my behalf
in the real world..If it requires a suit, I will do it, cycle slower and slip when I place my proper shoes where the clips are. If there is a chance of rain, I succumb to the *clapham omnibus

Slowly but surely I'm getting to know more and more of those on the forum which is a spiffing thing. Apart from "Oi", "wheel-jockey" "hipster" etc., what is the etiquette on spotting a fellow forum member?
Much like the masons, of which I'm also a member*, I think there should be a word that alerts other riders that you are a forum member and not a mentalist.
my suggestions: 1) VBoy (in honour of someone who used to be on the forum); 2)The name of one of those who may have been lost on the road - this way their name lives on and for people who never knew them; or 3) [a better suggestion than mine]
Don't worry, this isn't an aim to start "Kling-on" or anything exclusive, but it is quite obvious that a number of those spotted don't even notice the "spot".
*If you are a mason reading this, I'm from *a different *lodge than you.

Download The Corner - it's like methadone for Wire addicts. Only about 6 episodes mind. And is a very grim depiction of drug addiction, and plenty of skin-popping shots if you're the sensitive type.
I would recommend ep 6 of the corner. It is much rawer, but as I don't take the horse I'm not sure about the methadone metaphor. I didn't enjoy the Corner, just too grim and also rather clumsy in its camera work/direction/narration.
Wire fans will see the ideas that were later used in the Wire.

I struggled for 2 years with a Crank brothers mini pump. After snapping two new inners at the valve stem, miles from anywhere, I threw the thing in the bushes and pushed the bike home. I then bought a Masterblaster mini track pump. Okay so its twice the length but no broken tubes and it pumps comfortably to 120psi. Wish I had bought one 2 years ago.
What P!MP said. Norths drinks last night was proof...the lezyne got me to 40psi as detailed. P!MP's masterblaster which is only a bit bigger allows you to pump comfortably over 100psi. Considering the larger pump would fit in my bag there wasn't any advantage in the smaller pump.

Thanks to Corny for organising and thanks to all those that made me welcome last night.
Thanks to Paul (P!mp) for his lovely mini-pump and Vicky, Tony, Nick, DMC and Donut, James and every other name(forum name) I can't remember.
Particular shout to the four that grew to eight that supported me during my puncture repair!
..really can't believe Greasyslag sold out of all those *Norths *spoke cards!

seymour leisure centre (about 5 blocks from the hotel)
http://www.westminster.gov.uk/leisureandculture/sports/seymour.cfmCheck to see if they have yoga when you want it.
It will be cheaper but less poncey than other (yoga) spots (for which you might have to head towards Portobello - the west side of Paddington)
By the way, Edgware road is probably one of the most disgusting parts of London. (I live just off there! and so does Tony Blair)!

(Deep breath)
..The Independent have had their own version of this for a long time, and this new Standard effort takes quite a similar format.... I would imagine that the Standard would have done at least some market research in this area.
The ES borrowed this from the Independent which Daily Mail Group (DMG) acquired. Now that DMG has sold ...I look forward to seeing what the new owners of the standard do on this particular topic and whether there is money for this under the new editor...
