I saw a bird of prey today, but not sure what it was. Smaller than a buzzard or red kite (and this was in the Surrey Hills so lots of both about there) but larger than a kestrel, with a white chest and flecked neck. Any idea?

I think they've been a bit less radical than they used to be, but 10-15 years ago they seemed to make bikes that didn't fit anyone. I had a CAAD5 track frame which was great, rode really well, was very stable at speed on the track, then bought a SuperX cross bike, and it rode like shit, the head and seat tube angles were weird and the BB drop was all wrong for a cross bike, so pedal strike was an issue.

That would happen with most paint finishes. Applying helicopter tape or equivalent before fitting frame bags is essential on a painted frame.

I was riding somewhere where I'd expect to see kites yesterday morning, but was still amazed to see at least twelve of them catching thermals. Their comeback from near extinction in the UK is quite something.

I have a pair of cheap Planet-X lobster gloves that are great but showing their age. I want another pair of lobster gloves, as I find they work really well in low temperatures, but the one feature I want is a longer cuff, whereas most have fairly short ones. Has anyone seen a pair that might match my requirements?

Happy birthday! It's my youngest's birthday today, too. I'm going to suggest the fireworks are for her (although she'll be mainly concerned they are frightening the pets).
