The sun's come out. For one month, once a year, we'll have an influx of new people above the usual rate. Let's just try and give them a chance. Some of these people are bound to be cool, hang out, get the rounds in, and help others. Yeah some are going to be jerks... but we have no way of really knowing for sure until we give them a chance.
Wise words.
...Though a bit of lurking should give most folk a rough idea of what to expect. It's quite obviously not going to be C+ (most days anyway).

TBH (not having been to the Philippines) I would imagine something like a roadrat or pompino would be more bullet-proof - and allow for comfier, bigger tyres etc.
Or wait & see what the conditions are like out there first (though didn't you go out @ Xmas?) & what you'll be needing it for...maybe a mtb will still be useful?
(sorry - I know it is shit to answer that you don't want what you were asking about!)

Hi mcph,
Welcome over here.
Check out the ebay finds thread (& classifieds in general) for frames & bits. There are various folk who sell alot (Roberto / Jos - so search for them for details).I'm no expert, but as with MTB's, type of frame / geometry / sizing etc depends on what you want to use it for. Track, commuting, all-round hack...
SS & front brake only is not a good mix (see thread in Bike & bits) (though some beg to differ) - so go fixed or keep to 2 brakes to start with. Esp if you need the stopping power of discs, you'll need both brakes.
I'm sure others will offer more help!

I'm kind of two minds on this...

I like the hat tip to 90s car mod scene in the US....but there's just something that seems wrong....
While it was still dark evenings (feb-ish?) saw someone rocking some of these past Clapham south tube. Fucking Ace!

even Halfords give you free air / pump usage.
good retailing isn't about market forces, it's about customer satisfaction. If you charge ££$£ for anything & everything you will be a bit more profitable while things are going well, but people will resent being ripped off (see Whitcomb) & when the bubble bursts & you are back to the hardcore customers, they will have found a shop that didn't piss on the relationship with the customer during the boom times.
it's short-sighted & greedy & will come back to bite them on the arse.

The Bedford doesn't have anywhere great for bikes. There are railings outside, but not much space - though it is right at the end of my road so would be handy!
As mentioned in some other thread The Exhibit has an outside area (lovely views of Sainsbury's carpark too), though may be a bit poncy for some.
Would have proposed the Duke of Devonshire in Balham too, but sadly it has changed from old boozer to 'The Devonshire' - £4 a pint gastropub. -

1 x dooring by diplomatic immunity wanker
1 x over the bonnet of old boy turning left without indicating - freaked him more than me i think.
1 x cut up by twat on a brompton, coming down a hill at 20+ mph. somersaulted over his front wheel & broke my collarbone (handily cushioning bike from any damage). 1 yr on the arm is back in a sling having had a op last week to finally sort the mess out. never got his details either as my bike looked fine. -
^ agree. saw a big line of hi-vi yellows the whole length of london bridge. good to see loads of cyclists out.
but from this out comes the cyclist on mtb/hybrid, RLJ'ing with earphones on who tend to pick wrong lines (goin straight on a left side of a left turning lane). i dont go through red lights much, but i try not to get pissd off at those that RLJ without hesitation. but fck, dont do it if you've got music on, ped crossing or cant read the phasing of the traffic lights!!
+1 to that.
I'm off into hospital tomorrow to sort out a shoulder injury resulting from an incident with a fair-weather biker LY. 4 weeks off the bike just as the weather gets nice. 4 weeks on the Northern line too - oh shit.

Always. Commuting and off-road. Don't much care what other peoples' thoughts are - each to their own. I've been knocked off & broken other bits, but my heads intact, so I'm happy (if a bit sweaty in Summer).
And got to set a good example for the kids.
