I was in Cavendish bikes this afternoon (after a rendezvous with a certain Mr 14 (first name 50) at Oxford Circus) - and they have some lovely new handmade steel frames with track ends and gorgeous paint jobs and chrome lugs - I forget the brand - something Japanesish beginning with 'K'.
Very very very nice - £600 for frame and fork - but very very very nice.
Anyone know the name from my rubbish info above ?
The guy with the foreign accent and blotchy complexion (is he Polish, I wonder . . .) said they were getting a lot more in, and there would be quite a varied spec. And by the way I was most discreet Tynan, and left before they killed me. All I imparted was your good advice on ceramic bearings.

I've got an Inbred at the moment. It's a 14" and a couple of inches too small to be an effective 'road' bike. I'd like 700cc wheels too but running large vol road tires.
I was over there at Christmas. TBH, a Road-rat with a light build would be perfect... expensive though. and that's why a 'retro' resprayed frame appeals.
I've just been online creating a list of components for a build and quickly realised the problems with brakes / hubs and it also meant more expensive carbon rigid forks for disc mounts. I hate the idea of being under-braked (hence a HOPE M4s & 205mm floating rotors on my xc bike).
Any suggestions for 1" - 26mm clamp stems and 1" steerer forks.
Which powerful road brakes? What about Dura Ace 7700 for £40? Can you use road canti brakes with mtb type brake levers? If so which levers? I want to use flat bars. For the wheelset I was going to have Ultegra hubs, Mavic Open Sport rims and use a SS kit (spacers for 9 speed to 1 speed and a tensioner that bolts into the hanger). Is that the best way and a resonable wheelset for about £90 + £20 for SS kit?
Are road BBs the same as MTB BBs? If not, where's a good place for a cheap SS chainset and BB? Pref silver.
Thanks for the replies so far.
I don't know much about MTB's but I would assume that the BB's are made for triple chainsets, and therefore wider, probably 113mm as opposed 108mm. Others more knowledgeable will advise, but in road terms you need to decide if you want a single, double or triple. Also different threads, English or Italian.

Quote: i'll get a compact chainset when i get my pipe, slippers, subscription to saga and weekly delivery of tena lady.
I have all of the above plus a clay pipe, Axa subscription, 12 pensions, furry dice on my fiziks and still don't have a compact on three road bikes. Mind you I don't climb, I just go for the thrill of the descent . . .
Thinking of putting Sharon and Darren on the front of my handlebars also, with Litespeed graphics of course.Well done pj, a great achievement.

Can anyone advise me about which gear ratio would be suitable for me?
I have an off the peg fixed wheel. Ratio is 42-16 which is okay, but I find myself spinning out- alot.
I am in Glasgow so its not exactly billiard table country! I do a 23 mile commute so I feel I need a bigger gear but not something I would struggle to get away from the lights.
Can anyone of you peeps advise me on which gear I should try.
Muchos.
Funny, my handlebars are called Merak, (I think)!

1 - Bonthrone Bikes, Fulham
2 - Putney Cycles, ermmmm
3 - Bicycle Magic, Whitechapel

5 - AW Cycles, Colliers Wood
6 - Stratton Cycles, Wandsworth
7 - Cavendish Cycles, Central.
8 - Bicycle Workshop, All Saints rd., w11
ALSO - BRixton Cycles, Cavendish Cycles, BikeFix
EDIT - too slow - thanks VVI second Strattons, the two mechanics are Paul and Stefano who is Italian. Paul is an ex-road racer with masses of technical know especially about Campagnolo. Also has old shim and campag parts. Paul built my wheels with Phil Wood hubs on Araya track rims, and they'te perfect.

I will dig it out a little later from the seatpost forest, take a picture and get back to you !
Cheers.
P.S when do you need it by ?
I said I'd hand it over at South London beers on Monday. And the reason i want it is precisely why I don't want the pinar one scratched!!! Also buying is better in case of damage, and recriminations!

!!!!! get marked ! You said nothing about getting marked !! ;)
I was hoping to sell these posts - and they are not cheap stuff - I don't mind lending stuff but maybe it's not wise if they need to be pushed into the frame and will probably get scratched up ??
Chain reaction do a 31.6mm for a mere £14
http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Models.aspx?ModelID=6257
If you are interested in buying I have a carbon USE alien - used but in mint condition - and a brand new, never been out of the box, USE alien alluminium in black.
Both 31.6 x 350mm
I'll have the carbon Use alien if it's around £25 or so
