My angle grinder was the cheapest one in B&Q- around £15 as I recall, cheaper than a decent metal cutting disc anyway.
Go and get one, then use it to cut the other lock off.
Leave a note (chalk on the pavement might work well for this), then take the now unlocked bike to the nearest Police Station and hand it in.
exactly what the police advised and now resolved! thanks all

i know this must have been discussed before so would be greatful if anyone could point me to the relevant thread or dispense some advice please!
someone has locked their crappy bike to my girlfriend's nice bike, with a big lock. chances are its some moron but equally it could be that they plan to nick it later!
has anyone had experience with what to do in this situation?
thanks alot,
Leo

yep i've done it, it was amazing. took around 8 days including an easy day in the middle. i'd recommend panniers, and either bringing camping gear or going for b&bs you pass in the late afternoon each day.
i went on the ferry to calais, then went roughly as the bird flies towards geneva.. arras, st. quentin, chaumont, grey, salins les bains then over the mountains to nyon, then around the lake to geneva.
roads are very well marked in the countryside, but i would advice steering clear of towns, as it is too easy to get lost in them.
if you can possibly manage it, go through the foret de chaux towards the jura, fantastic cycling
remember getting service in france is a nightmare on wednesday and sunday!

Hi Guys, haven't frequented this site in a while, but now is my hour of need!
My Blue Fuji Track bike was stolen last night in Hampstead, north west london
The** distinctive points** are:
- cut down bull horns with tatty black and blue diamond crossed cloth bar tape on
- carbon aerodynamic mike burrows seat post
Blue and white frame, with the odd sticker on e.g. DIRT on the downtube. Its pretty grubby and lots of marks from throwing a lock around it.
Happened to have a random specialised QR front wheel on, silver hub, as the normal wheel had a puncture
Gutted its gone, as i have been hammering around on it for the last 7 years!
please call on 07796 095 526 or personal message me if you see it. It was much loved so i'm offering a small, feel-good reward if anyone can give me info leading to its recovery.
Thanks alot,
Leo

Dear all,
last night my girlfriend had her runaround stolen (an appollo bear-claw.. why anyone would want it is another matter...)
does anyone have something, preferably a hybrid or similar for her, as she currently can't get to work! interested in everything people have too offer, nothing too nice or expensive though please!
I dont want to get anything off gumtree as i dont want to replace it with someone elses stolen bike!
Thanks,
Leo

towns to avoid: troyes - its impossibly sign posted, the area around troyes has generally shit roads as well, so i'd avoid it!
i don't know what route your planning on taking but i very much recommend the jura mountains, maybe head towards chapagnole, then salins les bains and up through the foret de chaux is an awesome bit of cycling

it might be nicer going from aosta up to etroubles and over the grand st. bernard pass and down into martigny. i'm planning a very similar route at the moment, and was thinking that would be good. i've driven over that way before, not sure how it would be on a bike, but pretty good i'm guessing. anyone gone that way before?

hmm. well i was travelling with two friends which made accomodation problematic at times as not all small b&bs had rooms for 3 people so occaisionally it was more expenisive. We paid around 20 euros a night and about 40 once when we were beached in a touristy type place. we were off season (start of september) so got cheaper sometimes. then we probably paid around 10 euros a day for food. next time i do a trip like this i will book ahead (i didnt as i had no idea what mileage we were capable of) and consider camping.
raceface and oval stems: sold
