hippy
dogsballs
Sam I'd take the crank off using a crank extractor (Halfords sell one for about a fiver if no-one has one to lend), degrease the BB spindle and the crank area where the spindle enters, do a light re-grease back on the spindle and reassemble.
Give it a week and retighten the crank bolt if required, then (touch wood) all should be well!you should never lube a spindle!!
I'm in the 'apply a very thin wipe of grease to the spindle' school of thought. That's what my LBS did and that's what I do. It's a personal thing. Me and my lube.
I've never had cranks loosen/fall off (well once of my dad's bike but that was cottered and non-maintained).
I have always applied a layer of copper ease to the spindle and another layer to the threads on the bolts, and have never had a problem (either with removing them, or with them seizing).

[cite]hippy:[/cite]Next time we definitely need more time to find a Belgian bottle shop.. :D
That was the only downside of the whole weekend. Thoroughly enjoyed it, Caspar did really well to stay awake driving all night too. Thanks to both him and Winston for organising the transport. The racing was inspiring, am very keen on going to Berlin now.
Nice pics by the way, hippy. I particularly like this one:
That sand isn't going to do his chain any good!

Enjoyable ride. Only stayed with the guys for about 2 miles at Much Hadham, as was late for lunch. Bumped into them again for the train home, which worked out well. Hard going due to headwind and a bit slippy in places, but lovely roads (more up and down than we were led to believe, though...). Would be very keen to do it again another time - fixed or otherwise.

I'm actually going to Ghent for the six-day on Saturday, due back 8am Sunday morning. I'm planning on jumping on the bike and catching you guys up en-route to Cambridge, so will have to check the route before I leave. Have already booked some lunch with a friend there, so looking forward to it - see you Sunday.

Yep, great ride guys, really enjoyed it. Hope you all had something nice to eat in Brighton. I was glad to finally get home and get some food and drink and warmth inside me.
Scarlett (who stormed up) and Brett both beat me up the hill, then it was MA3K and Hippy in that order I think.
Glad to hear that guy is okay, but I'm quite surprised he broke a rib. See you all at the next one, or in Ghent.

mashton
jonny
mashton
lucky7 Mashton that was Matt, but he is yet a member of the forum.
He is a lurker! lolUmmm, thanks for that, but I'm pretty sure he wasn't called Matt. That's probably the only name I'd remember (same as mine!). He is in the photo above, on the right hand side, next to Doca, wearing a white Rapha cycling cap...
hey mashton, lucky7 is right, that is matthew, he did the catford hill climb and richmond park runs with us recently. that sip of rose must have gone to your head if you can't remember someone who shares your name. lol
Dammit, I'm a fuckwit! Well, I won't forget it now.
And Matthew, if you're lurking on this thread - I'm sorry for my shite memory, it was great chatting with you.
Hi. Yeah, that's me. And I signed up now.
See you on the ride to Brighton.
How did the chain get mashed, jonny?
