sounds like a good idea. myself and a few others are cycling from Brighton to Paris in a day sometime in august. it's best to get the ferry from newhaven to dieppe, then it's 105 miles to paris. calais is a longer route.
i'm not 100% on this, but when you use eurostar, your bikes get shipped on a different train so you may have to wait a while to pick them up...

FYI - when Dan Fleeman broke Gary Dodd's longstanding record at the Bec Hillclimb last year, he clocked 1.43.02, averaged 700W and put out 11W per kg of bodyweight :O
wow. that's seriously inpressive. i doubt he could hold that power over the course of the beacon - though i'd love to see him try!!
is anyone going to be able to make this date? it's right before the track day (?). so it's going to be pretty hard to convince people to make the journey. i suppose we could try and combine it with the social that's going on in brighton?

Slightly worried about the downhills brakeless. Is Ditchling that big?
I'll be in an old Raleigh shirt.dithcling is 1500m long, you can cover it in 10mins, it's not that bad a climb. the descnet into town is harder depending which way you go down... coldean lane (which is left when you get to the end of the road after the beacon) is steep, but if you can skid and hold your speed you should be cool, the other way (straight down ditchling rd) isn't a problem.

i'm not about on the 28th unfortunately. shame - was really up for this.
how fast can you go up the beacon?? got me wondering so i did come digging - having done some reps of the hill this morning, not very fast i might add...
the fastest time i could find was clocked by Stuart Dangerfield who beat reigning hill climb champ Jeff Wright by ten seconds in a time of 3-45.2. apparently it's 1500m from car park to car park. which would make his average speed 14.9mph or 24kmh. oh, and the average power output was 487 Watts. just ridiculous!!!
the top fours riders all rode fixed wheel. here is four times national hill climb champ jim henderson's bike. 12 pounds.

Hello, are people going out for a ride weds the 18th? It'd be nice to get out with you guys again (assuming my shoulder has healed-i rode into a car on lewes rd).
hope you're not hurting too bad! i may give racing a go next week, depends how fit i feel on the day; if not i'm definitely up for a social ride. no idea what the weather has in store for us next week... hopefully not rain!

Hey were you guys at the track yesturday???
yeah, we came down for a bit - had a little warm up, had some tea and cake then went out for a spin.
i may give racing a go - what's on the programme for next week? not feeling that fit just fancy giving it a go, see if i can get round... may need some tips on the rules/etiquette though...

Just spotted a helmet-less rider heading into town along lewes rd riding a cougar track - black with red writing... local?
also spotted a rider heading towards lewes rd this morning on a white (?) conversion with blue bar tape.
two new people in one day!
welcome George, maybe see you down the track next week?

i'm up for a wednesday ride, would be best to meet at the track - get to see a race or two before we set out.
btw - i can highly recommend Baker St Bikes, always helpful, friendly and excellent wheel builders!! been going there for years and don't have a bad word to say about them. support local, independent businesses!!!

cheers for the ride and the ice creams sunday, guys. company and sugar just the thing for tired legs. is anyone going for the night ride on saturday?
good to randomly bump into you all on sunday, that ice cream was pretty pretty good. not sure about sat - depends how i feel on the day really. i'll be at the nocturne anyway, so we'll see.
is anyone up for a spin this evening, seeing as it's such a nice day and all...?

the brighton police are overworked i'm sure, but when i got randomly assulted i actually had to phone them up twice to remind them to take a statement. i never heard anything back, but i'm glad i at least reported it.
funny that we're talking about near-misses... i just had one on King's Road, some idiot in a 206 GTI was inches from my back wheel whilst shouting that I should be in the bike lane. i wasn't exactly travelling slow (testing out the new mavic wheel for speed) at about 25mph and accelarating... if i'd so much as tapped the brake i'd have been under his wheels. needless to say i gave him a piece of my mind, took his number plate and reported him. unfortunately i didn't stop for witnesses. but at least his plate is on file for agressive driving towards a cyclist... IDIOT

Damnit, lo-pro overdosage..
I've had my lo-pro frame sitting about for two years and just getting round to building it up.. along with THE REST OF YOU!
On the bright side, I did pick it up when you could buy a sweet italian curvy frame for £40 on the bay, and a 650 wheel for a fiver.. and it'll probably be the only one in B'town.not so i'm afraid crank, i've got two... one simoncini and a concorde. not the most practical town bikes, but so very fast!
i'm about this evening - got to make a batch of cherry, banana, seed and chocolate uber flapjacks to take on the 'stones' ride first though.
