seems like a lot of trouble. what if we just create threads for each specific model then bunch it up in one OTP page. each thread will have reviews from owners (like mtbreview/magicalia sites). can also put an option to compare specs.
BUT reviews are done. various opinions here floating in various threads...some are just to lazy to read em. what noobs want to see is the "who wants to be a millionaire ask the audience" graph. a concise final answer. bike tests are always a bit sus as that goes down to one person's opinion. a poll would prob be enough. there's enough fuji/langster/plug/genesis users here to rate OTP's. non-owners can still vote based on taste, general opinion and familiarity with components
There is no answer as such - one man's meat is another's poison.
Really the OTP guide is a not needed. It's all here as you say. Just needs batching up perhaps.
How about an ongoing voting/rating system by owners. Rating 10 key aspects of their bike out of 10, with an overall score viewable. And an open ended comments section.
Equally there should be a round up of custom bike builders

Evans Cycles claim they 'Will not be beaten on price'
http://www.evanscycles.com/news.jsp?item_id=743Interesting...
The Steamroller sells at Evans for £599.99
BUT it is £539.99 with free delivery at Winstanleys Bikes
http://www.winstanleysbikes.co.uk/index.html?pageTitle=Surly&pageDesc=&action=search&submit=go&maincatID=0&searchtype=catID&quicksearch=912Has anyone challenged Evans in this way? I will do that this weekend when I test ride the Steamroller. I'll report back if they shift their price for me or indeed if they change their price across the board for the SS.
Maybe should get EC to change their price and have it delivered from Winstanleys...
I might well spring for that bike this weekend, but in case anyone out there has a decent steel fixie to sell that would suit a 5ft8in guy, PM me...

the jack of all trades thing isn't exactly true. Most triathletes I know are good at one sport, but not quite good enough, and reasonable at the other two, so think 'hey i know I'll do a triathlon!'
Most seem to come from running/ swimming backgrounds.I myself took to it from a swimming background after being a good swimmer and then suffering a bad injury and never being competetive afterwards, and still to this day the majority of my training is running, because I'm totally the wrong build for it + find it evil in the extreme. Riding my fixed bike sorted out any problems with the cycling leg.
I'm crap at all three, but it's fun
It's odd that you say that "most seem to come from running/swimming backgrounds". That doesn't make sense as the cycle is 50% of the race, the run 30% and swim 20%. Would be better to come from a cycling background. No?
I split my weekly exercise into those percentages:
5 x commutes by bike (actually 10 sessions, but who cares, it's cycling, it's good)
3 x runs
2 x swims
That seems to work for me -
Thanks everyone – I''ll go with multiple gears'n'brakes then. I'm doing the St Albans Trathlon again in June and the cycle route is very flat (also green and pleasant, but enuff of that), so I was thinking a fix would be good for that race. Ne'er mind.
Perhaps there is room in the events calendar for a fixed gear tri... you would have to swim one arm and hop on one leg too, though.

Aw, sorry for highjacking your thread. I was just looking for an excuse to post that weird photo.
Plugs are heavy, but if that's the worst criticism which can be levelled at the bike, it's probably not a bad place to start.
Is it THAT heavy - I emailled Charge about the weight of the Plug Racer and they said about 22.5lb. The regular Plug must be about the same. When does a bike become too heavy? The load you push against when you pedal = drag + bodyweight + what's in your backpack. Want a lighter bike? Diet! I've just lost 7lb in weight, so my bike is far lighter. Kinda...

What do you want to do on your bike before you die, win a big race? ride cross country? or beat that roodie scum on his carbon bike you see every morning?
I want to ride across the usa LA, to Portland OR, to Portland Mane, To NYC
I visit OR very other year as my inlaws live in in the state capital Salem, but have never had a bike out there. It is a fantastic state for the big outdoors, green and very pretty. Next time (summer 09) I will take some wheels there or buy some while I'm out there.
