Does anyone have any experience of Cane Creek Volos V wheels? I know that they cost more than a good, handbuilt midrange wheelset (i.e. Miche/Mavic/etc) but they look (in my opinion) awesome. Mainly because of the lotus flower-esque flanges.
Also, does anyone (Hassan?) know what the street price on these bad boys is in the UK? They are something like $585(US) RRP, but that means next to nothing once you factor in the distributor's margin, etc.

realenger doesn't apply retrospectivley though does it. once njs always njs.
It kind of does. Vivalo frames are no longer legal in Keirin races (regardless of age) and Ocean (the successor company) can't apply for NJS approved status for another 3 years or so.
So yeah, whoever buys my spare Vivalo won't be able to race it in Keirin. That said, the deep-Vs and Flites, etc, would make your bike equally ineligible for Keirin. So there you go.

dogsballs ask em if they want a vintage 1950 holdsworth track bike, with full english specs.
I can honestly say that, from what I could gather from my stilted conversation with the guy in Carnival, that is quite possibly the pisto Holy Grail for Tokyo residents. Two problems though:
I don't know what they'd be marking it up by, so the amount they'd want to give you might not be that huge (especially if they like to double their money).
How would you get it out there? My flight was only 290gn, so you could potentially take the bike out, flog it, buy something Keirin and still cover the cost? I think that shipping it would be quite costly.
If they ask though, how much would you want for it?

Sounds like people are pretty keen for them then (those who don't want to lynch me for propogating the whole "NJS worship" thing). Given that Pistanator got his frame for 390, I'm guessing that we're looking around the 375 - 400 mark.
And, taking Provenrad's advice to heart (and given that I should really ride a 56cm), it may be that I can sell both if Carnival/W-Base have something slightly better fitting for me. If that's the case, the price will probably drop to something like 325-350 per frame region, as I'll have to make less profit per frame to cover the cost of mine.
The ironic thing is that even by buying three NJS frames, I'll still be spending less than I would have had to to buy the Claude Butler Path frame they've got. If I was less lazy I'd try and organise some sort of Europe/Japan frame swap with Carnival; their Italian/English/French frames are going for 600+! I wonder what Bob Jacksons cost in bulk...

OK, here are the photos. Sorry that they aren't great, but I didn't think that I would be selling the frame until I was back in Blighty! I think that the one with white decals (the one you can't see as well) is slightly better; you'll note there is a little damage to the decals on the near one.
Proper photos in 10 days or so!

Pics will be available as soon as I have my camera near a computer.
I think that 450GN would be the ideal price (which is the point at which mine become free, effectively). Once I'm back people can see them, buyer gets choice of the one they'd prefer (in case one gets scuffed in transit). Serioudly though, these frames are almost immaculate. They even have what I presume is the riders numbers on them!

Don't know if it was stupid or shrewd, but I just bought two ex-Keirin 58cm Vivalo's from Carnival in Tokyo. The plan is to sell one when I get back to the UK, make a bit of a profit and therefore be able to afford the one I bought for myself. Does anyone know what sort of price these frames go for? They are white with yellow detail and are in great condition (if it wasn't for the fact that I know they've been raced I'd have said "shop soiled").
E-bay, private sale or try and get someone like Hassan at Cavendish to do a commission sale? Views?

I'm not going to make any recommendations, just clear up a few points and answer some questions:
wYs just been to jessops and held the d80 and 30d.
Much prefer the feel and weight of the canon in my hand over the nikon.
From what i gather thats pretty much what the difference is between the two, the results of either will be pretty much the same?
Mate is off to the us with work in a month, so ill get him to grab me one there. Ill just get him to un pack it so it looks like he hasnt just got it and flatten out all the packaging in his luggage!
Other differences:
The Canon has faster continuous shooting (5.5fps vs 3fps, I think)
Canon have an "open" RAW format (Nikon patented theirs, although this may only apply to the higher end cameras)
Nikons can use (some) manual focus lenses without having to use stop-down metering
Not sure about the Nikons, but I'm pretty sure my Canon has a worldwide warranty (i.e. I don't have to get it fixed in the country of purchase)
webby sorry to get back on subject.
The d40 recomendations should be model specific.
the cheapest ones rely on auto focus motors in the lenses. (glass)
A lot of aftermarket and som e niccor lenses dont have motors and rely on the af motor in the body.
Totally the wrong way round. Expensive lenses have motors in them, cheap ones may not.
All Canon lenses use motors, but of varying quality (i.e. USM is better than non-USM). Some Nikons do (AF-S I think?), but some Nikons have the screw drive that you need for older lenses. I don't think that lower end Nikons have the screw drive, meaning you could potentially lose auto-focus with some lenses.

OK, bit of a weird/overly specific question here.
Basically, I was thinking about coming down to polo with my "street" bike (a Commencal 26" wheel jump bike) and I was thinking about having it as a part time fix using one of those fancy new cogs from London Fixie Bike. Three questions though:
Would my teeny tiny bike be good for polo or would a regular size bike be better?
Is being fixed that much of an advantage (and would it be OK with flat pedals if I'm only doing polo speeds)
What sort of gearing should I go for? Lowest possible?

dr.oblong tom; gloves with metal plates has been my girlfriends request for sometime and i think it's for the same (paintwork) reasons.
Actually, I was more thinking for wing mirror/window/nose reasons
If I was only interested in the paint, I'd do what one of the guys who works for Evans does: he runs studs (or maybe even spikes) on the outside bit of his MTB shoes. Just the outside. Supposedly you can do a lot of damage that way
Personally, I'm thinking about carrying those plumbers smoke pellets and - where possible - throwing them into cars that endanger my life. Makes them impossible to drive and probably ruins to the upholstery. Perfect!
OK, but they are available flip-flop which suggests that they aren't track specific. Also, I've not (to my knowledge) seen a hub fail at the flange.
Anyone heard any horror stories re: these wheels?
