Just to update, I bought this off ebay last night, so Roberto's bike is still available (ed, asm)
I'm not going to change the colour (for now), but I am going to get deep V's. Can't help it, I just love em. The quest for the other cheap components now begins. Hopefully I'll have it done up for the Australia day ride.
Cheers for everyone's input. I'll be sure to correct them the next time someone says this forum is full of c**ts :)

@Ed, I was trying to be funny/topical (US elections). Obviously failed. I appreciate all comments, and like provenrad's idea of just spraying the forks white. I may take you up on the cheapo wheel also. Just give me a couple of days to hunt down some crack.
-
@Sam,
Where did you get rims and hubs for £50?
-
Wow, the early votes are in and it's not looking good for me.
I'm not too precious about the look of my bike (anyone who's seen my current red bastard can vouch) but it's the yellow fork on the Dave Russel that gets me. Blue frame, yellow forks, silver rims. It's all over the place.
But will definitely have to consider it to save money. -
Yeah, could save some on the rims and the powdercoating for sure, but then I'd still be paying £500+ for a bike that really did look like it had been put together by a blind man. The new paint job and coloured wheels were going to mask the crap quality of the other components.
Which answers MA3K's question. All those parts were just 2nd hand stuff from ebay or this forum.

So I'm thinking about building up a bike, was thinking £300 - £400, but after costing it all out, I was well surprised.
Dave Russel frame + forks from Roberto - £189
Powder coating frame (canary yellow) from Armourtex - £60
Pair of Deep V's (bright pink obviously) laced to Miche/Surly/whatever hubs - £180
Miche Crank + pedals + Chainring - £80
Bottom bracket - £20
Saddle + seatpost - £20
Stem + bars - £20
Chain + cog - £20
Front brake + lever - £20Total - £609
I'm not after a build vs off the rack debate, cause I love the process of building up the bike, but I'm looking for advice on getting the price down? I mean, this a hardly a high spec bike, with most of the parts being 2nd hand or mid - low range. I just don't see how the full build could get much cheaper. Any advice from the experts out there is most welcome.

I'm feeling pretty lucky this morning. After all that hurling myself to the ground, not a single bruise or scratch. It just feels like I got in a fight last night, and the bastard kept hitting me in the legs.
But it was good fun, and hopefully this will be a regular thing. Maybe next week I'll score more goals than I fall over. This week it was 2 - 4, I think.

I'm a big fan of democracy blah blah blah, and we've all had our say as to what's the best time and place to fit into our busy/lazy lives, but I think the time has come for someone to arbitrarily book the time and place and everyone either goes or doesn't.
Obviously, I'm suggesting someone else should do this, as there's no way I could handle the rejection if no-one comes to my designated place.
So who's it going to be?

How about that classic hip hop artist and peer of the realm, Sir Mix-a-lot:
I like big butts and I can not lie
You other brothers can't deny
That when a girl walks in with an itty bitty waste
And a round thing in your face
You get sprungor my fave:
So your girlfriend rolls a Honda
Playin' workout tapes by Fonda
But Fonda ain't got a motor in the back of her Honda
My anaconda don't want none unless you've got buns honTo be honest grab any few lines in that song and you have pure gold!

I just went to Jos' workshop in Seven Sisters on Sat. Lots of track and road frames plus assorted other parts. Definitely worth going up there and having a look. Send him an email or I can whisper you his no.
Otherwise get a cheap road frame off ebay. Should be able to easily pick one up for less than £100.

A girl on a green bike with white deep v's heading up Clapham rd this morning about 9.00am. I think she was wearing a white hat/beanie, but I didn't really notice cause I was trying to look at the bike.
I've been 3 months on this forum and that was my first spot. I've seen other fixies, but never seen enough to identify them. Must be going too fast:)

Sorry guys, can't make it tonight. Was really looking forward to it too. I will definitely be back next week though, so see you then.
