i don't think the piping is PVC. PVC that you buy in hardware stores is very brittle and tends to shatter (especially in the cold). whereas piping that you find in construction sites is either polyethylene or polyurethane which is stronger and molds rather than shatters.

i don't think glassjaw are "reforming" but every now and then they get together for a show. they normally do 2 or 3 shows between x-mas and new years, and then 1 or 2 at other random times.

i might get in on this...any more details?

mrvista i love bikes but hate bike people?

i don't know if it's this way over here, but in the US if you work at a bike shop you're either a mechanic or a salesperson, and usually the mechanic rarely deals with people.

hmm. i thought that being really forward on the drop and up out of the saddle was best because then you were sort of pushing back with all your weight.

i didn't get the people practically holding on to the stem...having your hands/arms so close constricts your lungs.

it was great meeting all of you today who were at polo. everyone was really amicable and just all around nice. polo was a hell of a lot of fun and, as someone remarked, very 'gentlemanly' - there wasn't a lot of aggression and thrashing about to be had - though i did pull some dick moves which i apologize for.

i had fun. it was nice to see that many people out on bikes, though i don't know if i'd be able to deal with that amount of bikes on a daily level, just because of the sheer congestion.

hippy, i saw the girl on the lime green and pink fixed gear...it seemed rather ill-suited for her.

having this sticker on a bike caused someone at miami university ohio to get the bomb squad called in to see about the bike.

i'm not sure on this, but i think campy tells you NOT to use any other cog on their hubs besides their own - it can damage the threading of the hub.

the whole lot of photos that were taken of broadway bombing were great. especially the series done by the guy above once it had started raining when we got below 14th street.

in the picture both wheels are phil wood high flange hubs laced to velocity deep v's (700c)

regarding the whole riser/raised stem thing - most people who are in the market for pursuit bikes these days either buy older 'funny' bikes with sloping tubes that takes a 700-650 or a 700-24 mix of wheels or buy some of the 700-700 production bikes (like geekhouse or affinity http://www.affinitycycles.com/ - though i've never ridden on the affinity one before).
personally, i'd throw tt bullhorns on a pursuit bike if i wanted it, but most people are looking for something moderately comfortable and not using a pursuit bike for it's intended purpose

also, uci has banned using 2 different size wheels, and i think the physics of it was proved wrong - that having a 650c wheel in the front has more rolling resistance which negates the aero-ness you would have by having a lower front end.

marty from geekhouse is a great guy. he offered up a custom built frame (to be custom built for the person) to the first out of towner at my friend's 'departed'-themed race. he's knows his shit about frame building and has been at it for a while. he used to race downhill and started geekhouse building mountain bike and downhill frames but has since branched out to pursuit-style frames. he can put together other types of frames but i don't think he's in the custom-making business right now. he eventually wants the above model to be a 'production' bike, but i'm not sure if he reached that level just yet - the last time we talked (in august) he was still working on getting a bigger workspace i believe.

the frame is for two 700c wheels but is relatively lax for a pursuit bike. the headtube angle and fork don't cause toe overlap (atleast not when i was riding around on that bike). he sold the bike (with the parts on it) on e-bay over the summer to put more money into his business (though i would have kept that sweet bike).
he did a lot of his work with the help of the guys at A.N.T. (http://www.antbikemike.com/) who make really interesting and classic looking bikes - some of the stuff they displayed at their showcase over the summer looked amazing.
