Just thought i should update on a recovered bike. Stolen friday night outside The George in Dalston. Brick lane on sunday, bike turns up after a few hours hanging around, sprayed black and gold like many other bikes being sold there. Buyer turns up, and walks with the seller to the cashpoint. I follow them and call the police. Police turn up, handcuff the seller and take the bike away. An hour or so later after giving the police a statement, i leave the station. 1 minute before i leave i see the thief/seller leave the station with a mate.

the whole thing is becoming textbook.

i think this might be a good idea. If enough people are on it it would create a type of neighbourhood watch for bikes. If a bike gets stolen you post where it was stolen and what the bike looks like and people in the area can keep an eye for it.

Hashtags will only work if enough people know about it.

The amazing thing is that the whole thing is so fucking predictable. Next Friday i'm getting a video camera and going on a hunt. The george, the scolt head, the Vietnamese and general kingsland road - i'm going to start getting these guys on video.

Mate had his bike stolen from outside the George in Dalston. Old Puch frame, quite knackered, nothing special, just a beater. Still infuriating. I thought things were getting better or if you had shit bikes it would be ok - obviously not.

i have a gazelle champion mondial track frame that is slightly bent from a crash a couple of weeks ago.

i might be up for this - but more likely to do it if it happens on weekends.

by the way, the infamous bike theft hotspot, The George in Dalston, has installed a camera so you can watch your bike from inside the pub.

very frustrating - my girlfriend had her wheels nicked from outside the scolt head a few months ago as well, and a friend had his bike striped locked to the fence of the Huong Viat.

It has become so predictable it should be easy to catch the guy if someone has the audacity to confront him.

Hi, my Giant Bowery 2008 was stolen off me last night. Was walking home with it when 2 guys on a scooter came by rather close and before I knew it had grabbed the bike and drove off with it. Was stunned! Have never heard of this before. Anyway doubt I'll see it again, was fairly standard build but with a specialized ladies saddle as about the only distinguishing mark. Thought I'd report this new (to me) method of bike theft.

sometimes the head tube is tapered on the inside. Had this with my girlfriends bike. Just use a shorter/lower stem.

i think its been an optional extra for a couple of years - but quite a cheap extra from what i remember.

i've found that its really hard to get perfect tension all the way round on the chain - practically impossible - make sure the wheel is as straight as possible on the frame.

there are some good spaces on ridley road - i have a studio there - but its £300pm for the room - i share it so pay less.

Get the CCTV footage now ! It will cost you (a fiver I think ?) - but if you are on the footage - which you are - then you are entitled to a copy under the Freedom of Information Act.

Footage of an Adission Lee courier attempting to kick a cyclist off his bike would be problematic for them when it appears on youtube and the link forwarded to all their major clients.

I think the "sting" is a good idea and will be so easy...I always wanted to catch then, then forcefully lock them to the railings , gag them and put some soft of " I am a bike theif" sign on them ...take a few pictures for the press etc.....

agree with the sting op. but it i think it should be targeted at the more orgaised bike thiefs - the one thatc comes round the george in a van when the curtains close then drives straight to columbia road for a few more.

i don't think "kicking the shit" is the way forward - but if we film the whole thing, so that people can be identified, collect information etc - then we can take the info to the police.
