I didnt watch the program.
However the maths sounds seriously Iffy,
I mean, what about the fact that you have to fuel the people with More Kj of energy than they would be able to produce from the cycling, and with all of the other losses ontop, this would be unbearably inefficient.
Energy don't come from nowhere.
In Fact, you could burn the food directly, to produce more energy than the bicycles. This way you cut out the middle man, literally.
That's why you stick the fatties on the bikes. Exercise and starve them 'til they're thin then let them back into society.

I'm not English, but can someone explain what Viz is. I Googled it, and all I got was some Japanese comic book, which may or may not explain what is going on here. Regardless, very funny stuff.

That Google can be notoriously tricky to use sometimes.

The beeb article is victim-blaming crap.
There is no evidence that the cyclists killed in London were undertaking.
The beeb article seems like misdirection to me. There is evidence that a large number of HGV/cyclist accidents are where the lorry hits the back of the cyclist. The cyclist is not in a blind spot (which ought not to be an excuse anyway. Saying "I didn't see them" is an admission of bad driving) and the cyclist had done nothing wrong.
Maybe a campaign telling HGV drivers not to drive illegal, uninsured vehicles, not to drive whilst drunk or drugged and not to drive whilst filling in their paperwork would be better.
I don't think it's victim blaming. It's always hard to report on statistics that seem to suggest an unpalatable conclusion and I think the article trod the fine line very well.
They are simply trying to find a theory to explain an observed pattern.
As a side note: stats on HGV accidents - it's all the foreigners' fault!

No one posted this yet?
Pretty interesting read.

I've got an Endura eVent jacket. Had it for three years and it works fine for all conditions from summer rain through to -4 degrees and snow. Just vary the base layers.
Also, it's managed to survive a couple of bad crashes. Worst damage it sustained was a small hole similar to a cigarette burn. My skin, on the other hand, looked like I'd been attacked with a cheese grater. Still not sure how that worked.

Anyone seen this on the BBC website?
**Cyclists warned of killer lorries **A campaign launched by Transport for London (TfL) will warn cyclists about lorries - which caused more than half the city's bicycle deaths in 2008.
Nine of the 15 cyclists killed last year were hit by trucks.
To be fair, I am proud of my top speed. But I'm very aware of the fact that I could go faster if I wasn't scared. I'm far happier that I can climb Ditchling in the same gear.
