Yep for sure, the to-do / wish list (order of priority) is still at least:
- Rear rack - needs touch of silver paint + some brackets to lift lower mounting points 1-2cm
- Mud flaps front and rear - would like to cut these myself if I can just source suitable rubber sheet
- Need to upgrade my old cheapo saddle bags for something waterproof & more functional
- Will probably realize the option for low-riders (Tubus Duo or similar) before first proper tour
- Rear rack - needs touch of silver paint + some brackets to lift lower mounting points 1-2cm

One last post - with "final" spec and photo link:

After plenty of fine-tuning (shifting, ride position, brake adjustments, etc) and putting back the brake boosters & installing a stem-spacer-mounted bell - I've now done the first actual rides with this thing :D
It feels great! Going straight it rolls forward like a train, but not in a bad way... quick when needed. Also very comfy with these tires and seat, does not feel harsh at all like one could expect from a stiff alu frame. I'm 185cm tall and the fit is spot on... Everything works smoothly - I really like the DA bar end action. Not to mention rim brakes - definately not dead - it stops on a dime
...now just need to ride it!

Yep agreed they are budget :D Paid 10€...Have had the Tektro canti versions on my SS beater for long and no complaints
Those Dia-Compes I saw at my LBS, main issue was they are really narrow at the hoods, nice old skool style but not very comfortable for actual riding...
Overall spend on this bike I initially tried to keep below 1k€ - but has been overrun by couple of hundred even I got the frame incl. original wheels for cheap
This has been a really nice project even with some final touches still to go - must thank everyone for your comments !!!
This is now my 3rd Cannondale in the lineup, will join these MTB hardtails from 1992 and 1998:

Almost done... at least very nearly!
Cable oilers are in - very nice piece of kit(!), bars wrapped, chain and the double stand (Esge Pletscher twin) also installed. Had to file & dremel a groove to the botton plate of the stand for the RD cable to clear nicely...
Front rack is Racktime Topit, basically same company as Tubus but models are aluminium. Will allow mouting lowriders such as Tubus Duo thru same mounts later if needed
Rear rack is from Pelago, not yet pictured... The racks are different color so now wondering if I should strip both for a pure silver look or paint them in XTR grey or something :D
As pictured now the whole thing is 12,3kg... Will be 12,9 or flat 13 with the rear rack and brake boosters

Some progress again - mounted the shifting parts. Cables and outers are Dura-Ace.
Still planning to cut the outers to install Middleburn cable oilers, and some sealed ends etc...
But the fenders... they always really change the looks on a bike! These are Pelago (http://www.pelagobicycles.com) 45mm paired with Velo Orange 5mm alu stays... just realized they match the cages, also 5mm rod ;)
Racks and stand, maybe mudflaps etc still to go... now keen to get this finished soon as snow has almost melted in Helsinki!

Finally starting take look like a bike! Wheels built, tires mounted... Now with Soma 38mm but there would be ample room to run quite a bit fatter w/o fenders. Some knobby gravel tires for fall/winter etc.
My plan still is to go full fenders for a start... Finnish weather can be all rain thru entire summer!
Drivetrain 9spd also in the friendly group photo - DA meets XTR time. Front mech is M950 with the differential plate action ie hinged cage - and rear mech M953 meaning the reverse action low-normal version. Will allow both bar end shifters to shift in the same direction :) That titanium cassette was my original pick, but still debating if I should just go with M770 XT for better durability... Win-win either way

Not much progress unfortunately, mainly due to lack of free time (1.5yr-old toddler...) - had to re-order the spokes after failed delivery and still waiting... On the other hand I have now all shifting components collected, just need to strip / clean / service the front & rear mechs
More pics later this week

Wheels wheels wheels... So I what I have is
1 - The original pair in very good nick for loaded-long-haul:
- Mavic T519 rims in black
- CODA Expert Cartridge hubs in black
- DT Champion 36h / 3x laced, also black
- These should be bombproof, weight is approx 2.3kg for the pair... (will add a photo later)
2 - Some goodies for a second pair as part of this rebuild project. These would be aimed for lighter use, i.e. occasional commuting, day trips, trekking, pulling the toddler Chariot, etc. "everyday" riding
- H Son Archetype in "hard ano" grey
- XTR M950 hubs
- Sapim Race 32h / 3x in Silver
- These will weigh 1840g-ish so almost half kg lighter for the pair
Have not yet started wheel building since still waiting for the spokes from bike24. Meanwhile however did a full service for the M950 hubs... Rear was really minty, runs perfectly smooth - in front some small signs in the cups & cones, but nothing major and now spins smooth in fresh grease, no play

Thanks! And @Ellis47 - sorry, the RS3 set not for sale...
Now installed the RS7 with 46/36/24 rings... with more budget I would have gone with TA Specilites, but this set I already had at hand... The granny is retro chromed steel from some XT M730ish set.
Also C'dale bottle cages! Unfortunately I might have a chain clearance issue with the under-dt-mounted one... possibly needs some modification, at least some extra strapping in any case for the bottle to resist gravity
Wheels and shifting up next... waiting for some spokes and a rear mech
-
Crank options... RS3 and RS7, both with 110 triple spiders. I really like this polished pair of RS3 - but they somehow seem bit too flimsy paired with large diameter alu tubing. Will probably save them for steel retro mtb. The RS7 are much beefier and also forged. Not sure if I should polish them as well... maybe not? Chainrings very likely to be black.

Would work ok also without, but I've found on my F800 CAAD2 hardtail that at least parallelogram v-brakes such as XT M750 and these M950/1 transfer so much force that even with this rear design they bend the seatstays outwards (also with the booster, but much less)... also like the symmetry and the looks :D

Trying out the brakes... I still need to rebuild the XTR arms as I want to clean and regrease the tiny bearings in the pivots.
Meanwhile some elbow grease for the Tektro boosters... De-anodized, 240/320/400/600/800/1200/2000 grit and autosol... One done, one still to go. Pretty happy with the results even though this is nonsense details!

Only small progress but as the thread is already pic-heavy... Got some bars! Nitto B177 aka Noodle in 44cm
Next up with the build will be braking department... I sort of wanted to go cantilever or even Magura HS66, but the frame is actually designed for linear pull - no hangers, and the toptube cable guides run at 7-8 o'clock which means the cable bend by the seatpost clamp would be ackward with cantis.
So it will be XTR M951 arms + Tektro RL520 levers + Tektro 917.12 adjusters + Tektro T-3 boosters with a custom twist. Why boosters... why not? :) They should clear the rack mounts I hope...

End of summer update... now with also rear rack (ended up going with Racktime Lightit Touren), some DIY mud flaps and Ortliebs
Lights will still be needed for autumn...
Sadly only shorter day trips and trekking this season, but fun anyways
