on the way to work this morning, at the lights on junction road by tufnell park tube. in the asl creeping off in my hard gear, up a hill, slowly getting my pace and a matchingbikeandspandex overtook me in an easy gear.
I got my momentum which was faster than what he was doing and just before the top of the hill over took him, and he burst out laughing! I said, 'takes me a bit of time to build my speed up mate' and belted off down the hill.
perhaps he caught his reflection in a shop window.

Rode loads as a kid. when i was in brighton i put posters and flyers in pubs and bars all over town and cycled that, cycled to college on my radford mtb. then stopped for a few yrs, moved to ldn, got a orange clockwork to commute/ride woods on. then found it too clunky for the commute and is a bit of a waste of a decent bike on london roads..
so got a 10yr old mint dawes ultra racer off ebay for £136. found that i could ride everywhere in the hardest gear, fixed it last week at brick lane bikes and love it.
So quick, so quiet!

all good. just spending money on bits to do it up with on ebay. white dmr's, white bar tape, finger brake.. just need to file off all the sticky out geary bits, respray it black and white, put on the 70's dawes badge and ill be happy.
diy respray or get it done properly? im a dab hand with the old spraypaint, but more used to letter formation and brick walls. Is it expensive?
Love riding the bike though, so quiet and quick. Could use a slightly harder gear though, going down hill full pelt my legs are moving like the clappers.

to the forum and fixed bikes. thought id say hi :D
Did my first commute on my recently fixed racer this morning, and spent the whole journey thinking 'keep pedalling, keep pedalling' ! was good though, bikes a lot lighter and more nimble. but i want to change more stuff now and i can see this developing into yet another expensive hobby.
reffered to this site by a mate on here. Owen? show your ugly mug!
Up for the bridge ride too if i make it back from kent in time.. sounds like a laugh.
