Well it's funny actually, I shop anywhere for jeans. I tend to just wear one pair. At the moment I'm sporting a lovely slightly stretchy black pair, I got them from ebay for £30 and they're lovely and soft, ooooh darling.
I'm watching Top Gear too, but nothing compares to that arctic drive to the North Pole though, since I've seen that, nothing compares. I was totally mesmerised.

Ah but move on to what? Bootcuts aren't back in yet. the next thing will be skirts though, trust.
It's just when I read hipster it kinda is a good thing, BUT at the same time its almost a bad thing because its not cool to be cool anymore, if you get me. So that being cool isn't cool anymore because it's cool, and it's cool not to be cool... hmmm.

Man I hate the word 'hipster' because its such a bad word. It's like trying to classify something that has hundreds of sub-genres. And being hip is cool, but it always seems to be used in a derogetary way...
Plus I wear skinny jeans, because I like skinny jeans and its just what I'm into, I'm not ashamed to say I want to fit in around the people I hang around with and the places I go. I didn't even realise fixed was 'cool' until a few weeks ago and I've been into it for a while now.
I'm not ranting, it's just I keep reading the word hipster and being offended on the inside for some reason, partly because I don't really understand whats wrong with it (maybe theres not and I'm imagining it all... This is probably the case).

I went to Halfords and bought a 1/8 silver plated chain that looks just like a KMC for £5.99.
Now KMC are cool, but I've snapped a Kool, so it's all the same, everythings gonna snap when you least expect it. I reccomend you go there.
And your bike shop sounds a bit harsh, like kinda seem to be pressurising you into a sale, and that isn't cool. (so much cool)
Is your LBS a modern shop? I'd say go outta town a bit and find a small old shop and they will probably make you a bike on a frame for £20, my LBS is a big deal, but if I go slightly further out, I find all the bits I need but it doesn't matter who makes them (cables, linings, grips, bearings) and its about 1/3 of the price.

I need a new fixed wheel for my shops bike. By new I don't really mean new. Have you got one you'd sell? Sealed bearings preferable but not essential. So yeah. And also I need either a 16 or 17t sprocket.
Anyone got either? Can't afford much as its just a general things to do bike, I just don't have a spare one.
Posted would also be great as I work at all kinds of times often without knowing when I'm next in, but I can also pick it up from London if thats not accessible.
Thankyou indeed

MA3K Riding SS with one brake just because it "looks cool", now that is plain silly.
I wouldn't agree with that at all, you could say that about people that don't wear helmets on a much greater extent. If you're comfortable with riding it then the fact it looks better is a plus.
EDIT Actually I get you, if you're riding it just for aesthetic appeal, thats not a good idea.

So if we weren't here the world will eventually come to an end anyway due to heating because the sun is dying. Admittedly thats 5 billion years away, but still.

One of my bikes is SS, I run just a front brake with KoolStop's, stops me sweet. On it I only have the front brake though because of how neat the bike looks without cables to the back and because theres no cable guides (anymore...), I'd have two if I didn't care about what it looks like, but I do. And its loverly.

winston However I'm always sceptical of what we're being told, the perceived wisdom etc, etc....history shows we have been constantly lied to especially in times of conflict like wot we are in now....
See this is what I was sceptical of. Because scientists can prove pretty much anything. If I had enough money I might even be able to have them prove global warming has nothing to with anything we are in control of.
But then of course theres the idea we all live in a World of Warcraft type computer game and are actualy being controlled by humans (we are merely artificial intelligence) and so global warming is pretty unimportant if you compare it to that...

Well I was talking to my friend who studies something, I can't remember what, he was saying the ice caps are actually melting because they're meant to be melting because since the end of the ice age the world has been warming up anyway and is still meant to be. But I guess global warming has accelerated it. So they'd be melting anyway, but global waming has sped up the rate they melt?
I dunno, he just told me this (guess it was an opinion) and it got me to thinking. Just wondered if anyone knew why I shouldn't think this.
-
Not so much philosophy, but...
Surely if we're coming out of an ice age the ice caps are meant to be melting? Theyve been melting for millions of years... Are we being told it's because of global warming because western countries are running out of fuel and having to rely on other countries for it and want us to use less of it so that western countries still have control?
I dunno, I thought that recently and didn't know who else to ask, I only know art students...

Yeah those RPM look wicked, after all I used a Shimano Octalink crank when I first used to ride trials, cost me £20 and I landed on them all the time if I missed something, they lasted me 9 months and the worst that happened was they got a bit dented. Forged cheapness owns I tell thee.
Thanks for the replies, I'll get those RPM ones, do I have to call up Kiwi or is there another online ordering thing anyone knows of?

I'm looking for a new set of cranks and I really don't know what to get. I'm a student with little money until the loan comes through and can't afford THAT much but would really like some recommendations on what I can get, either just the crankarms or a whole chainset, for as little as possible.
So either new would be great or if somebodys selling some, then let me know as I'd be interested. But yeah, any kind of pointers to some good ones?
Thanks

I run SS, not fixed, with just a front brake. I use a cut down Avid SD7 lever which you can adjust how muich leverage you get, moving up or down the lever. I have it at the top which means the shortest pull for the most stopping on a sidepull. Its amazing, admittedly I'd use a rear brake if I had one but I really don't feel as if I need one, the stopping is literally the equivalent of an onld HS33 I have on my trials bike.
Plus it looks so sweet with no cables.
what are you, a priest?[/quote]
Nope, thats just when I'm employed in my mysterious job.
