Do standard police drivers have special training for driving through traffic with sirens on at 60mph? The ones in Astras and stuff? I read a few things, which I don't know if they are true or not.
One is that its just a niceness to move out of the way for a Police car with sirens on, and you are not bound by law to get out of its way.
Two is that every time they go through a speed camera over the limit, the Police force still has to pay the penalty.I do not know whether this is actally true, mind...

Get an old drive-side crank arm with a small ring (22t or something) on it, get 30cm of old chain. Wrap chain around crank and chainring so it won't come off, real messy. Then do the same on the cog. Then you kinda use the arms of the crank to rest on the inner side of the cog and just push down therefore loosening the cog. It sounds like it won't work, but it will, I do this all the time.
Don't do this with an expensive hub though, just incase the crank arm slips and, I dunno, combusts.

Because after reading fyxomatosis I've decided I don't want to die. I've searched topics as I thought there would be more topics on helmets, but there isn't. Anywhom, I'm after some sort of recommendations, as I will buy it online and so won't be able to see it in the flesh.
What I'm after...
Is a dark coloured
Medium sized
Well vented
Well fitted
Cool
HelmetOh yeah, I'll spend around £60 (online prices), I know it sounds terrible, but I would really like one that looks good too, not a really big one or one with no vents or something. I guess I'm pretty vain. I'm open to all types of well recommended helmets, pisspot or whatever.
Many thankyous.

I was in Paris a month after this started (July) and there were SO many of these around. It was amazing, thousands and thousands of them, with the pods for them every half mile or so. It was amazing that after a month of it being there, they already had so many in use. There were teams with lorries redistributing them around the city centre too.

'Hi, thanks all the interest.
Just to clarify - the bike was resprayed last summer and used for short daily commute for approx 6 months after that, little used since.
In one of the pictures on my FGG posting the dishing on the rear wheel looks a bit off - this is simply due to the angle of the camera. Dishing and chainline are both fine.
Cheers
Alex'Answered.

When I first started riding fixed I found that when I went to bed it felt as if my legs were still going round. It's pretty tough, and when you go off a curb or round a corner you have to time it perfectly so you don't knock the pedals.
Also, if you try riding a freewheel again now, it's gonna feel weird because of the circular motion you get used to, and then suddenly its not there anymore.

Er, you just called the site owner a stupid hippy twat and then whine about hatred and bitchin'? Charming.[/quote]
I think he meant Bono is a 'stupid hippy twat'. But who knows...
My room looks out onto a school playing field. I don't like it for the children, but for the green grass merged with trees, tower blocks around mixed with a faded sky. [/poetry]

Dunwich Destroyed Me Hi guys, I've got a 100mm quill that I want to swap over to a shorter reach one. Any chance we could do some three way action involving quills and beers/money? Up for a meet in central London but I'm off on my holibobs on Tuesday.
Well, no need for three when theres two... I have a short reach stem that I could swap for the 100mm if you want? I think mine is about 70, but I'll measure it when I get out of bed.
Also, could we post them? After today I've got an insanely heavy week of work.

I looked on ebay, however there really aren't that many on there that go for less than £20.
I've got some great deals on this forum so I thought I'd rather get it from here than from ebay.
rg37, sorry, I'm looking for quite a long reach stem, about 100mm - 130mm, I didn't make myself clear. Thanks for the offer though (that was the sort of generous offer I was talking about)

But how many people are honestly riding fixed because of the maintenance/weight thing?
Fixed just happens to be cool, you can't deny it, its nice to be different, so surely a good chunk of riding it for a lot of people is because fixed is cool...
Maintenance aside, brakes and gears are easier to ride (I never really needed that much maintenance with brakes and gears anyway), getting up a hill is easier, fixed just feels different.

I fully expected this to turn into a directory of free porn sites by now.
