You used to be able to get real old style chain tensioners (like you find on dutch bikes) for about a quid at the LBS. Those star ones don't fit that well on the ends of the dropouts. They just have two bolts that are supposed to push against the d'outs, but actually they flop around and scratch everything to fuck, and that was on my BMX, where they were supposed to be.
Track and road bikes have 10mm axles almost always.
Try and get the old style ones, they work in the same way as the 25 quid MKS NJS stamped ones.

I think the point of the study was to highlight and SHOW how ridiculous the CAPITALIST CONSUMERIST SOCIETY has become, when you can argue, consider, even for ONE SECOND, that DRIVING A CAR would be more ENVIRONMENTALLY SOUND than riding a lovely BIKE. Of course THE person who wrote this study does not advocate that we HOP off two-wheels, RATHER THAT WE:
DISSEMINATE ESSENTIAL INFORMATION and FIGHT THE BOURGEOIS OPRESSORS AT EVERY TURN.
BIKERS OF THE WORLD, UNITE.

Just a light girl's bike (not fixed) for my girlfriend, who is 5'8'' (Old peugeot or raleigh or whatever). Budget £100 plus or minus depending on the blah, blah. Anyone got one? Know a good second hand bike shop? I honestly can't stomach buying something from Brick Lane market. Apologies for the absolutely non-fixed nature of this post, though I am pumping money back into the impoverished fixed wheel community.... Thanks.

There was talk on another thread (insults I think) about throwing the Highway Code at bad drivers (epecially because they've just made it bigger and heavier!). I think passing on the inside is one of the most sane rules in the code. You shouldn't pass on the inside, cars don't look there, lorries just don't look EVER. In fact, most drivers don't check mirrors/ blindspots at all, left or right. I've been sent flying overtaking legally on the right, as has Billa off here (by a Police Van). Just be bold, command respect and do it like a car, innit? Who wants to ride in the gutter anyway? Bumpy on 23x700s anyway :(
