postie bags are sweet, especially if you tweak them a bit... mine became surprisingly comfy after i added a stabilizer strap and a nice fat shoulder strap....

if you become a ctc member they offer a third party liability cover and that's relatively cheap (£34/year i think, cheaper if you're student) - that would allow you to buy a cheaper insurance than the one you noted.

yeah, dying the rm bags is not likely to be a success... think the acrylic will probably wear off quite quickly as the bag is juggled about but may be worth a shot...

i'm running my flyer fixed with a dura ace 16t sprocket and although the chainline may have slight discrepancy it's nothing i'd lose sleep over... as eddie said the knuckleheads at genesis supplied a different width fixed cog, which is just sheer stupidity but it's not that expensive to get another one so hey, never mind...

The royal mail ones are huge and relatively easy to get a hold of (i think, i got mine very easily!) and actually very comfortable if you tweak them a bit - i'll upload some pictures of mine if you want?

i think there's a place off oxford st where you can get royal mail ones cheap... i just found one on the street and patched it up/added a strap or two,i think they're quite comfy actually...

brick lane bikes usually have some good quality frames - think i've seen a condor frame for 350 there at some point, might be worth checking out...

as for pimping flyers, i've just replaced my saddle with a specialized avatar 130, cheap and not too shabby looking - doesnt have the vintage brooks look ofcourse, but neither does the rest of the bike... taped over the decals with white insulation tape, already banged up a bit, but looks much better... using m520's with shimano shoes (same price range as the specialized mtb's and they're good). using a 16t dura ace sprocket - the whole shabang cost me in the region of 120 quid, not too bad and it looks good in my opinion...
