MA3K I just made a pair of my own from an old pair of skate shoes and the insole from some dead Northwaves. What ever style of shoe you get just make sure they fit TIGHT. The first time I went out riding in my conversions my foot nearly came out.
First time I tied my laces since junior high.
when i was looking at cycle shoes i was thinking of doing the same but didnt know how to get round the ripping of the cleat out the bottom of the shoe, makes sence to use the base of a cycle shoe. nice one MA3k

leeww I have used Bebops for around 8 years.
What can I say, less than half the weight of Shimano's top end offerings @ only 175g a pair!! - made from steel - no titanium or other stuff to break, incredibly low stack height, simple design, super robust, my maintenance over the last 8 years has been to give them a wipe (around 2003).
ooooooh they look slick!!

tomiskinky I've had egg beaters for 6 years or so... They work well for me, needed a pedal with float for my knees.
You need to regrease every 6 months or so, but only rebuilt them once in that time and I use them on and off road. Not cheap, unless you get Chromo ones! These are a nice light weight shoe, nice and clean looking for fixed I think?
http://www.wiggle.co.uk/ProductDetail.aspx?Cat=cycle&ProdID=5360028716&n=Adidas%20Cycling%20Cyclone%20Road%20ShoesI was looking at them nice looking, most of the combi spds are a bit bulky and can look a bit ugly....also im a bit of trainer freek..sad i know but we got vices!

Well my first time fixed runout the other day, thanks to some wheels from dogsballs,(thanks very much mate they run smooth)
had fun and after single speeding for some time the urge to coast was bucked out of me with in the first few mins!!!!!gonna get some clipless pedels as clips and straps i found to be a pain in the arse, was ok when i could coast to slip back in but a bit harder with fixed.
Any sugestions for mid budget pedels and shoes?

JOL Hi.
I masked this myself and then got it done at a car body shop. If you wanted proper (harder) bike paint I reckon you could mask and then get it done saving cash by masking yourself. Here is a photo-progress.
