Hey - just checking to see the general opinion on the lifespan of a 'basic' carbon road fork... in particular, I ride a 07 Genesis Flyer which has the original forks, which have been ridden pretty hard for the last 7 years. I don't see any signs of cracking or damage but I've always viewed carbon bike components (probably wrongly) to be more fragile than their metal counterparts so I'm thinking if it's time for a change?
Whilst looking around I have seen to possible options from BLB, namely the
AVENTON LITE FORK - CARBON
http://www.bricklanebikes.co.uk/aventon-lite-fork-carbonBLB AF02 CARBON FORK
http://www.bricklanebikes.co.uk/blb-af02-carbon-fork-matt-finish
Does anyone have any experience with either of these??

They look good, not many cyclists out there are trying to break the hour record or even shave 3 seconds off their P.B. - so the fact that the rim is 100g heavier than an OpenPro will not even register on their radar, but these 'casual' cyclists might be attracted to the look of a deep section wheel, especially if they are in vogue.
We might as well post up on an athletics forum about all the idiots wearing trainers that plainly offer no sporting advantage.
So, I reckon I will go with the Hip-hop slavery to Mammon option. I will admit to being a weight weenie, so can't bring myself to put a Deep V on a bike, but I do like the look of them.
Anyhow those aren't deep, these bastards are deep:
What saddle is that?

I was passing by the olympic velodrome in Barcelona and saw some of the Catalunyan team practicing. There was also one dude there with one leg giving it some round the track as well!)
I got talking to one of the guys who works there and I was lucky enough to get a bit of a tour around the inside of the 'drome, all the changing rooms, workshops, storage rooms ful of track bikes and parts. I think he wanted to sell me this classic track frame made in Mallorca, very nice looking too, don't remember he name unfortunately.
Here's some snaps:
and one of the bike for good measure! ;)

I´ve had an idea that I´m going to try tonight, I´ve got good quality cnc sprocket and chainring but i´m having problems getting even chain tension through the full rotation of the cranks. If you look closely at the crank/chainring, you can see that the c/ring isn´t sitting dead centre and there are gaps that vary in size between where the c/ring rests against each of the five arms of the crank.. . .anyway, I reckon that a bit of shimming from a ally can should do the job.
I´ve seen a few threads about this, different ideas have been thrown about but I´ve never seen anyone mention shimming, has anyone tried it?

Out of the punctures i´ve had, luckily they´ve all gone down gently, but not looking forward to the day i´m decending and the tube/tyre explodes, does this happen? :S During many years of mtbing i´ve never had anything causing me to crash, but on bikes with narrower tyres and much higher pressures I imagine this could be more. . . hmmm, interesting. What do you know?

maybe he's looking to wear it as a fashion item. (shop shirt, not apron)
I've got a pedros one, it's actually dickies. but it's black and cost £5.
they're not really popular in this country
. . .not really, just as an alternative to riding in a tshirt, and would be more durable than a cycling jersey. BIG, cordura bags tend to grind up my tshirts with use. "mechanic" shirts I would like to think would be more durable that than an average one, and if its cheap, the better. If it has anything bike related on (cycle jersey wise) = cherry on the cake!

I wonder if this is still available? :)
