^ this is my main living space. One wide chair next to the fire. Kitchen. i'm standing at the bathroom door / closet to the left which isn't in the pic. My bedroom is behind me and that converts to seating for four people... but mainly its Duckie space in the mornings because the sun creates a nice warm spot there when i open the curtains.

**The plan was to buy Miracle, try my hand at the lifestyle and then trade up.

Well, its been 6 months and I have learned many, many things.

I know how to drive my boat and moor it (still with some struggling and panic)
I know how to light my burner and chop wood.
I know that life on the river Lea is brilliant and I want to keep this lifestyle.
More than any of that I know I want a bigger boat.

Much to my surprise, I'm on the third smallest liveaboard on the river. There is Barny at 18ft with 12ft of living space which until recently was home to man and dog (sadly just man now) and Maid Marion at 20ft but with he cruiser deck at 9ft and a large bow has even less living space than Barny.

I don't know how they do it. BUT THEY DO.

With Miracle I am more or less content. Yes, I want a bigger boat, but that's more for entertaining than anything ...and the storage.

With the market and economy the way it is a small boat has more going for it. You pay less insurance, less licence, less mooring fees. It's very practical. I'm saving thousands a year. That's a comfort.

Without the capital to trade up I need to hold on to that comfort and keep saving. If the economy gets worse before it gets better again (which it may do) I'm in a good position.

duckie has started being a pest at night.

He decides he wants out and throws himself at the window or door. No cat flap on miracle. It's really irritating. Most nights he goes out at 10pm comes back in at 12 and we're good til 7a.m.
Last night / this am he started this shenanigans at 3am. I held off til 3.30 then let him out. I think he got stuck at 10pm on the boats because of the foxes but that's just my guess. There are A LOT of foxes here. Two nights ago I saw 2 and something that looked like a really big weasel when i opened the door about 2am.
I do worry about him going out here.

i fell in love with L&Ws demon bike. I didnt know it was possible for me to fall for another.. you're a lucky man.

@cliveo - nope no one was pulled prior - except me and ted who tested it. But we sort of have to show up..

he's always had lots of help I might add, but its incredibly stressful for everyone at the tea stop to be faced with a mass arrival and be frantic for 45mins.

ha. there was no faffing with the ballots. I looked after our programmed set the programe up and only recognised 3 names. I was sad about that for sure. Happily some of my favourites are now marshals and tea stop brigade. . .

@shoreditch - corny is right about the insurance.. there is also the matter of tea stop. Tim has been running that for 3 years now and its really REALLY difficult to do 500 cuppa in an hour = more and I think he'd have a heart attack.

@celeste - you're enthusiasm is amazing.. :)

@johnny NO i'm not spamming people. that's counter productive. I have no interest in posting to irrelivant people / sites / etc.,

Its not the way I want to get the message out about the big ride to as many people as possible in the london area - cyclists, families, walkers etc.,

I want to reach the local communities forums, the mums and dads, the people in your offices who see you cycle in and wish they could but are nervous to.

and I also need to be able to monitor / engage / get feedback on the video itself so I'm asking for people to reach out to their contacts and friends whom i wouldn't necessarily be able to reach myself.

Its a positive message about changing london's roads..
