i was talking with some people at brixton bowls about this the other day, and none of them seem to like the idea that fixed gear could become like skating. i mean tricks are fun and all but it can never compete with skateboarding. fair enough that video of that guy jumping the st pauls stair sets is real impressive, but i doubt you could get down london bridge ten on a fixed gear without breaking something.

my dad picked one up at the smithfield nocturne, considering it was rapha it was pretty cheap i think it was a five or ten pounds with a rapha cap as well, even if it was just a small bag made of thin cotton. i like the fact that its a bag that you can just shove in your pocket when your finished with it, but it would be useless on wet days/carring anything bigger than a 'zine or a wallet.

"The only thing slowing you down on a bike is air, and if you halve the resistance by riding a recumbent, you dramatically increase your speed."
Do recumbants have tyres with zero rolling resistancer now? Doh :)
the rolling resistance isnt halved, but they are so much faster than normal bikes that they were banned from pretty much every tour or race, even on track, in the 1930s because people felt they were too fast.

What bike has he got cos I see a couple of fixed riders going up there(Brixton Hill/Streatham Hill) now n then, I do it in a fairly quick time(love overtaking geared roadbike users :-)) and I've never seen anyone go like stink up there
i did the trip to angel on a geared racing bike in the middle of the afternoon, but normally im on a purple and white fixed(gillott) with risers and white deep vs. i always see some guy on an orange fixed gear going up brixton hill. and i saw a guy in streatham on a black fixed with an orange front wheel and nobrakes (slightly off topic)
but given theres different ways that people use fixed gear bikes surely only "fixed gear freestyle" is like bmx, just using track bikes on streets isnt really a discipline.
