I spent a while convinced I was going to sell my Ricohs but they’re perfect for taking photos when I’m out with other people - my wife gets justifiably impatient with me if I keep stopping to compose a picture properly with my X Pro 3, so I only really use that now if I’m out on my own - the Ricohs I have set up for zone focusing with the snap distance setting and I mostly just shoot from the hip - my hit rate isn’t high but because it’s so unobtrusive and I can just snap away without holding up proceedings I still end up with a lot more decent photos. If I want to do anything very considered, though, the Fuji is perfect because all the control surfaces are just there where you expect them without having to delve into menus.

Fuji is great if you like old school control surfaces. The XEs are hard to come by for reasonable money because of the instagram frenzy. The XT-x and XT-xx lines are great. A lot is going to depend on the form factor you prefer.

You can get external optical viewfinders for the Ricohs. Obviously it’s not the same as an EVF. But it works well in bright light. The controls are a bit fiddly but mostly you set things how you want them to work and leave things alone. But again they’re quite hard to come by

Solovair were the original UK manufacturers of DMs when production first started here in the 60s.

I paid £170 for them at Oliver Spencer, so hopefully £100 seems reasonable?

Anyone interested in a pair of Oliver Spencer x Solovair black grain Gibson shoes in a 9? I’ve only worn them 4-5 times, they’re just a bit too narrow for my oddly wide feet but they are lovely shoes with very comfy soles. Germany phasing out nuclear when it did was completely political. You could have had a much more significant climate and public health impact by phasing out lignite-fuelled power generation (the mining itself is horrendous) and then working to phase out nuclear thereafter, but that would have lost Merkel the vote in the lignite-mining regions. It was a knee jerk response to Fukushima in a country that faces no earthquakes or tsunamis - the risks of another 10-15 years of operation were minimal.

(Sorry Oliver, I respect you a lot but when half of the Germans I know tell me that microwaves make water change its molecular structure I tend to think that Germany has a nuke phobia that goes beyond actual facts.)

As for Nord Stream 2 - that pipeline was a mistake, but it was agreed when Yanukovich was running Ukraine. If you believed Ukraine was going to remain a corrupt Russian client state taking its own cut on transit then having a route around it seemed more sensible then it does now.

@C4r1s I might see if I can just find a suitable harness for in-basket travel and get the little guy used to the idea early on…

Anyone have any experience of taking a smallish dog on a Brompton? They would fit in the regular Brompton basket but I would worry about them jumping out! I found a specific Brompton pet carrier but it’s £300 plus shipping from Korea so looking for more reasonable solutions…

Thanks all. It would be primarily for home. I’m mulling whether to get something dual purpose for the car - but as it will be a small dog (Lakeland terrier) and we have a small car I think we’ll likely get something specific for travelling. But it might be a good idea to have something packable so that if (much further) down the line we ask a relative to look after him for a couple of days, we can bring the crate with so he still has somewhere familiar to sleep.
