A friend has a Cannondale Bad Boy with hub gears and disc brakes. She really fancies red rims to offset the black stealth look. Now seeing myself as an experienced wheel builder (ok - built one that hasnt fallen apart yet!) I rashly offered to change the rims to red deep vs.
Am i letting myself in for a world of pain here? Anything thats going to catch me out with the hubgear/disc combo? -

Sheldon reckoned its fine with a good quality skewer.....

So the time has come for my first attempt at wheel building (due to drunkenly cross threading a sprocket on and stripping the threads on a Suzue hub....evidently Newcastle Brown in quantity and bike fettling aren't happy bedfellows!).
I've just ordered a Zenith hub and plan to use the old Ambrosio rim - I can't find the Zenith hub dimensions so will measure it when it turns up (this one if anyone happens to have the sizes)....BUT if it does happen that my existing spokes are the right size, what are the thoughts on re-using them and the nipples as well?By the way, it was this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qTb3x5VO69Y
youtube video that persueded me to have a go....fingers crossed! -
but theres only one real way to clean a chain - http://www.sheldonbrown.com/chainclean.html
Sheldon sez so so it must be true!

thanks tommy - i'm guessing that the spokes will need changing if i go with a deep section rim, just a bit worried about having a disc brake - does it put more force on the spokes....does the tension need to be different to a rim brake, I wonder?
