Oddly enough, it is often the drivers attitude or reaction that can cause the poor reactions, without boring you with another "I nearly got me killed" story - a woman in a BMW or Merc put the fear of god into me with a thoughtless/reckless move that had my testicles on the move - but she was so apologetic (and genuinely so) that the situation diffused almost instantly.
My testicles later returned from my stomach and all three of us went down the pub (me and my two testicles not the woman).[/quote]
exactamundo man, it amazing how easily the wind can be blown from my sails, by a simple 'sorry'. Its the refusal or 'fuck you', even when i don't get angry and explain really patiently that what they are doing is dangerous... That said its also really easy to spot those people on bikes, i saw a lady hit a pot hole coming out of hyde park in the wet/dark four fucking brompton/hybrids stared at her like she was some kind of mechanical toy that just came apart. i was the only one to go over and ask "are you all right?" she laughed her arse off, at her silliness for not seeing the pot hole, but it really made me want to push those four fuckers over and then enquire "are you all right?'

Of course thats untrue, i've probably shit up many a cyclist when i was driving, they just weren't as mad, quick or dumb to do what i did.
How much is a windscreen £1000. Does the car heal? Does it get a little more scared now when it see's a bike, does the driver? How much is a broken arm worth? A graze on the shin, a bent wheel, a knock to the confidence? Can these be calculated, can a driver ever know what its like until he is a cyclist? When all drivers have compulsory cycling proficiency tests before they are allowed near any motor vehicle, i'll mellow, until then i'll feel the way that particular motorist made me feel at that particular time. ... I've cursed someone to see them mouth 'sorry' at me, which embarrassed me and broke a scowl into a smile instantly, now that invariably makes my day.apoligies for the novel!

I have wanted to do a 'ryan' almost everyday, infact i don't feel i've woken up in the morning until i've shouted my first 'WANKER!' and i don't cycle nearly as much as he does. Its not the amount of cycling its the fact that someone, anyone has no respect for my life. I know this because they jsut put it in danger for a yard o' tarmac. I had a taxi cut me up in the summer and scare the living bejesus out of me. I chased him down, (he had no idea, never saw me coming) i leaned in his window, about 2mm from his face and screamed and spit that he had just passed me, "at exactly this distance." He shit himself and screamed for me to calm down. I put the back of my hand 2mm from his face and repeated the distance he had passed me at, asked him if he liked it and whether it was scary? He said "calm down, havent you ever made a mistake?" I replied when i make a mistake it dosn't engdanger anyone's life.

Cars never had to share the rd, with anyone else apart from other cars, for the most part up until 10 years or so ago. When they had to share the rd with other cars it pissed them off, they got mad and shouted and honked at each other, but for the most part, (most part) didnt get out and tap on each others windows. Lots of cyclists ride on the rd now and cars have to share the rd, with more people/traffic/bodies/numbers it makes them more pissed off. I'm sure most don't realise they are driving a lethal weapon, until they ride a bike. (how many people do you know who ask: "ooh how can you ride a bike in london? isnt it scary?" I bet they aren't scared in their cars.)

as i left through broadgate, toward london bridge, it was entirely empty and silent apart from some tower 42 (72?) spotters getting some shots, really eery, all the workmen had left and the surface would have been amazing for polo brand new down the london bridge end and the fresh tarmac, really warm still!

tynan I work for myself and often don't get dressed until 2pm, this would normally not be a problem but I work with my friend who has to wittiness this charade, we write the music you hear on advertisements on the telly and in the cinema.
Today we spent most of the day recording pans being dropped on the floor and old glass jars smashing in the garden for a meteor storm scene, but we got bored and went down the pub.
i'm a filmmaker...writing a sci-fi with a meteor storm scene at the moment. i'd love to hear your pan crashing storm.

Maxwell Duryea lets try it again...
Hi, im Maxwell, and a student at Swansea University. Im originally from Albuquerque, NM where i was a mechanic at two bike shops. I am a trials rider at heart, but on exchange for school/photography. This fixie makes for a great way to commute and cross train. Its growing on me more and more each day. The frame was salvaged from a metal recyling plant, and all the other parts were sourced from another local shop in Swansea. Built up with good parts and cost nearly nothing. Bought the wheels and thats about it.
heres a small breakdown...
52.5cm Road frame. Had a 531 Reynolds sticker on it. Shit paint, so started to grind off, figured i would leave it looking ratty so no one nicks it! Tight but faily relaxed geometry. Matching fork.
Old school track drops and Stem
Campagnolo Chorus Headset.
Campagnolo Veloce BB
Shimano 600 Cranks, 165mm.
Campagnolo 42t chainring
Mavic Open Pro rims, DB spokes, Campagnolo Road front, Ambrosia rear. 15t Dura ace cog/ring
Brooks Saddle (worn in SO well)
Shimano 105 track pedals (switched out the MKS)
Front fender for style:)yeh i'm loving that. wicked mudguard too (fender) and the drops, what did you do with those oh so pretty drops?

jonny object, used to live within 10 mins of epping forest so always out there. but mainly we could get the train down to petersfield and go and hit the south downs. have been other places too.
problem is a no longer have my mtb (tho it is with a mate who can i borrow it from). i converted it to SS but he has put gears back on it. i did cross country rather than downhill. never mtb'd fixed but could easily be CONvinced if i had the wheels
i'm definetly in on the offroad, fixed ride. I have a converted mtb (that i kept for years and years) with eccentric hub its wicked, but alas havent gone off road yet...

RPM I wondered when that would get posted.
there's a couple of parts in that vid I really like
re: parts...yeh the drop handle bars and one of the frames was quite nice.
...the video though is pantaloons, lets be honest the 'heros' bike changes repeatedly and the 'chase' pedestrian to say the least.

Nicholas On my old conversion I put some spacers on and the spider stood out off the ledge. The stress on the spacers and the bolts was too much and the whole crankset kicked the shit out of itself in one fell swoop.
Take caution.
heed this not and not my advice... as in my earlier advice.
...although you did say it was out 2.5mm and not a big deal. so if you havent dropped your chain yet then it might be just fine. i've ridden worse. and fitting bottom bracket aint that bad either. Just need the right tool/s and be gentle. but for fucks sake don't go to the box, don't prize that 'oh so easy' bike from its packaging. worries you may have, others call them challenges, you will like your bike better for it i assure you
... now all we need is for spezialized to market the 'challenge' a bike that fits no part.

different BB for sure but maybe try them, I asked at Brixton if i could do this and the guy said yup should be a possibility, although i wondered about the stress on the bolts too, but he didnt mention it and knew i was riding fixed. Give it a go before shelling out for a new BB i reckon, you'll soon know, they arent all gonna bust in one go if it is too much stress.
i'm up pootling round town but not a big ride.. just wanna see it all ghostly.
