yeah if someone has a lock ring tool and a chain whip they coup bring that would be a great help. Might need to change my sprocket
Seconded!
I've gone out and bought a 20t cog and lock ring for my bike especially for tonight, but the mean people at condor wouldn't lend me a tool to put it on with only offering to sell me one for £20.
if someone could bring one along tonight that would be lovely.

Hello there,
I was just about to have a look at getting insurance for my bicycles, does anyone have any tips?
http://www.cycleguard.co.uk
Seemed quite reasonableBut are there better ones? Is it worth joining the LCC or something to get special discount rates somewhere.
Whats the score wonderful people of LFGSS???

I'm definitely up for this, and could come along this evening if it's dry and we can decide on a spot.
by the way, are SPD pedals ruled out for trickery? most of the cool cats seem to have toe clips and straps?
also, I'm currently running 48x16 (which the bike came with) should I go pick up an 18 tooth cog or something?

Don't know if this has been up before?

A design student has made a 100% (apart from tyres and chain etc) cardboard sinfle speed bicycle. Complete with cardboard aerospoke wheels!
he reckons you could make them for £15!

Cheers,
I was probably just the other side of a window keeping half an eye on her. The spraying wasn't too hard, just sanded it down to get something for the paint to grip to, then masked off the bits I wanted to keep. Several layers of paint and laquer later and job done.
I'm sure it will all start chipping off next week mind.

There is a guy who rides a lovely red fixed wheel with chrome forks from the east end into soho each day at about 9:30 on the same commute as me. Had a great pair of orange shades on today!
I've got a blue bike with blue front and pink rear wheel.
I keep meaning to say hello, but he was wearing headphones.
so incase he's on here,
HELLO!

It was arranged by a friend of mine, I've forgotten what the lady who was running it was called (I've a memory like a sieve) but I think it was charlotte.
I'll try and find out some more details, I think it was through some kind of cycle club, the rest of the wheels were a mix of racer ones, one with a dynamo and all sorts. Mine was definitely the prettiest!

I went to a wheel building workshop yesterday down in Limehouse.
Bloody brilliant!
check out my new shiny front wheel.
velocity rim on a formula hub
cost me £82 for the bits and bobs from BLB, which was kind of pricey, but much cheaper and much more fun than buying a ready made one.
We learnt all about the dark arts of wheel building, the 4 dimensions, the alchemy of it all. Although at the end, we realised it's not that hard, and a big deep rim helps do half of the straightening for you.
then after de-stressing and re-trueing our wheels, I got to ride into work on my new shiny wheel.
ACE.
now for the rear one.

Hello,
I've got a LOVELY old dawes fixed wheel bike (which i'll try and post a pic of soon). However the tyres on it are in pretty poor shape. It's got 27 x 1 1/4 wheels, but the only replacements I seem to be able to find are with amber walls. It came with some lovely old whitewall ones and I'd like to replace like for like.
does anyone know a place I might be able to pick some up? I've checked ebay and several bike shops but the only white wall ones seem to come in 20" or 26".
is there a vintage bike parts shop anywhere, if not, should I try and open one?

Hello Danger!
Bastard police are useless, Gelatin Agent had her bike stolen, found it, found out that it was sold from a shop on Brick Lane, and offered to go around with the girl who'd bought it and the police to confront the shop about selling stolen bikes. The police delayed 4 times and eventually the girl with the stolen bike disappeared and changed her mobile number so that she couldn't be contacted any more!
You should definitely take it up a level, short of handing them criminals on a platter there really isn't much more you could do to make their job easier.
Everyone complains about bike crime, road deaths and stolen bikes, and it's the one thing the police could easily sort out. They know where stolen bikes are being sold, they know where they are being stolen from and in your case they have actual evidence of dangerous driving (I can't believe you have his number plate!) infact forget dangerous driving, it's hit and run.
they take the piss and you should definitely kick up a stink.

thing is this one was bought from a shop, not some hoodie on the side of the street.
a business with premesis.
no doubt they'll claim they bought it in good faith from someone, but i'll bet their 'suppliers' just happen to come across loads of 'second hand' bikes each week, and only take cash in hand.
Hello,
I'm helping a friend convert her old peugeot racer to a single speed, (then maybe fixed).
anyway, I'm having a bit of trouble figuring out the rear brake.
The frame she's got, has a vertical hole through the rear bar that you bolt a brake onto, rather than a horizontal one (like every other bike i've seen)
any clues where I can get a brake for this?
I guess, perhaps this should just encourage her to jump straight into riding fixed?
