Erm,
Thought it best to ask here.
I ride a pretty low-pro with a 650c front wheel

I've seen a cheap carbon 26" wheel mountain bike wheel up for grabs. what's the usual width of these things? is it going to look like I've just got it off a tractor or can I get a skinny enough tyre on it do you think? also how much difference in size is there between 650c and 26", I had the feeling it wasn't much?
am I being a numpty?

Just saw the video on the news of the police pushing that guy - ridiculous, i hope they haul someone up for that
That's the thing though.
It's not just a case of hauling someone up, it's a wholesale change in the attitude of the police which needs to change. The guy that beat and threw Ian Tomlinson is one of hundreds and hundreds of officers who all acted in the same way that day. Due to the fact that the event was hyped from well beforehand by their bosses as the beginning of the "summer of rage" and bound to be violent.
Just because Tomlinson died, doesn't mean that the officer who beat him was any more aggressive than the ones who beat hundreds of other people. He just had bad luck.
even the chairman of the Met says
"Sometimes it isn't clear, as a police officer, who is a protester and who is not.
I know it's a generalisation but anybody in that part of the town at that time, the assumption would be that they are part of the protest."basically saying, that in his mind it's ok to beat peaceful protesters, alas they just got the wrong man this time.

Of all the cameras and such present it is surprising to have seen any footage of this yet. Be interesting to hear an official response to such footage.
police attack non violent climate camp
activist respond by not fighting back and chanting "this is not a riot" and "shame on you"
police wade in still, hitting people who are not fighting back -

hello all,
not a fixed problem, so I don't know if people can help but i thought I'd try anyway.
My lovely ladies shopper bike got a puncture in the rear tyre. We took it off, fixed the tube and put it back together,
However, the chain that comes out of the 3 speed hub seems to be at the wrong angle now and is a bugger to reconnect. the obvious solution is to rotate the axle around, but it's one of those weird axles with flat bits and wedged washers so that it slots into the rear drop outs rather than being able to twist around.
it looks a bit like this one:
any clues? Can you loosen off something to rotate the axle and chain within the hub?

I was indeed driving it, I think I may have seen some trixie dix types whilst we were secretly moving last week.
It became quite a crazy day all in all, especially the part where we drove through the city with a police escort! See you all soon once I've had a bit of time to sort out the mess we're all in now.
love and rage

This thread has honestly surprised me
I'll be there with bells on, ready to cause plenty of trouble.
because as we all know marching with 2 million people against the war (the largest ever march in the history of this country) had no effect on the powers that be at all. Perhaps the g20 are the only people who can have any effect on the economic situation and impending environmental crisis, however as we all know, they will do absolutely nothing other than rejig the system to further benefit the rich and powerful.
Look at the World Bank and IMF, two institutions set up to help countries in crisis to have access to emergency funds to restabalise and sort themselves out. Look how the countries of the g20, or rather the G8 or even G1 use these institutions to force countries into adopting fundamentalist free market approaches, sell of all public assets and open up to foreign business take over.
I have no faith at all that Obama, Brown or any of the others have any intention of trying to avert the oncoming mess.
The only way I can see to get them to have any change of heart is to show that the people of the world, the people of the UK are not prepared to put up with them any more. This doesn't mean marching from A-B then listening to Tony Benn, or writing to the local paper. It means scaring the shit out of them. Something which next week's protests seem to be starting to do.
However it is worth noting that the police are using this as a massive excuse to up their violence and surveillance against legitimate protest. There have been front page stories in plenty of papers recently of the police abusing terrorist legislation and ASBO legislation to put people off protesting, the TSG (their riot crew) have 60 cases of assault pending against their officers (2/3 of which are against brown people) surprisingly they 'lost' two mail bags of complaints against them and all of the officers log books?
It may well kick off next week, I know from experience it is likely to be the police who start this.
So do come along, but keep your wits about you.
