'Ello Chris. It's different riding in NYC, although I seem to remember that the first snows of the year last year involved alot of cyclists walking.
BTW, take care of John for me. he seems to think he's coming back here, but I know better.
After the trouble I had getting in? Im never leaving again. Fuck CBP. Youre right though. Riding here is different. But I think everyones just more used to snow. Although the other day, when I was trying to find polo in a snowstorm in the dark (which is sirprisingly hard when every street sign is covered in snow), this guy came up and said "youre riding your bike in this shit? Man. youre a hard ass motherfucker." Which only goes to show he has no idea of how much of a pussy I really am.
Incidentally, brakeless+ice+crossing williamsburg bridge is more fun than I ever expected. I didnt realise you could skid and accelerate at the same time. Stopping at the bottom on ice is a skill Ive yet to master..

go jihad! Thanks tom. Can't check pics ATM as trapped in Italy but I imagine games won't be played in a foot of snow.
In New York they just HTFU...I stopped by the pit last night to watch the NYC games, and they just shovelled the 6inches of snow away and carried on playing while it was still snowing...I lasted about 10 minutes, realised I couldnt feel my feet any more and pussied away to a suitably heated bar..

Where did you get your 20t freewheel from? Biggest I can find is 18t. Does anyone have a spare 20t+ freewheel I can buy?
Think it was an ebay thing, from the BFF loaner bikes a couple of years ago..
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/New-Dicta-20T-BMX-Trails-Single-Screw-On-Freewheel_W0QQitemZ370146147578
Thats the one I have. Warning. Its a) shit and b) has no way of removing it, which is why it now comes with attached wheel...

We have this in San Francisco where I'm from. Anything similar here in London? Looking for a place where I can put together a bike/do tune-ups for free/real cheap, with access to loads of tools.
I'm so happy that place still exists. I used to volunteer there for a while back when I lived there, maybe 5 years ago. Its a great place thats genuinely open to everyone, from college kids to homeless guys. Amazing vibe. I learnt so much stuff there too. And they still do the best events. Did you do the Tour de Cupcake? genius...

This excludes Roberto who was suited up for a track session and went on his own.
I think thats Robertos usual costume. The year before he rode all night draped in glowsticks instead of lights, as well as riding a brakeless pursuit bike, complete with helmet. Standing at the feed station in the freezing rain, I asked him about his costume. "Oh, I brought a cape, but it was making too much noise so I took it off", he said.

Last night was the funniest. I haven't laughed (quietly) so much in fucking ages.
Trying to be quiet just made it so much funnier though. Silent trackstanding was hilarious, but that photo is definitely the highlight of the year sofar. That was so loud. Every time I look at riks face I cant stop laughing. Awesome evening. Can we go back?

i've seen birds riding brakeless in heels, why??
Because 3 inch heels are way hotter than sidis. If youre going to ride brakeless because it looks cool, the last thing youd want to do is fuck it up with bad shoes. Incidentally, if youd been at Faster Pussycat this summer you'd have seen me riding brakeless in heels. Knee high platform ones. And I'm not even a "bird".
Not seen- Me. It's amazing how covert you are on a cargo bike...
Although will did recognize me, and he might have even caught mr attack and I hanging out on our seperate cargo bikes. You had a couple moment? Adorable. Does he know youre calling him Mr Attack now? Yeah, youre completely invisible on those things. Its as if youre not a bike any more. Ive had people try to overtake me on the inside like they do with buses..

also, eggpie has built a pretty substancial tourer from a MTB and may have parts left over..
er..theres not much left over that'd be useful :(
+1 for the schwalbe tyres. I also switched out the rockshox fork for a rigid one. The Surly Long Haul Trucker fork comes in a 26" version with rack eyes etc thoughtfully included. The gary Fisher also had rear rack eyes already, which is partly why I chose it. I quite like that bottle cage though. Ive seen similar things before, but I'd been relying on a couple of standard cages and a spare bottle in the panniers..
Ive also weirdly gone for the drop bar/cantis/bar end shifters combination, which also required a less-than beautiful 45degree riser stem. I'd definitely go with the bar ends though. The extra range of hand positions is well worth it. The drops make mine look more like a twisted Thorn style tourer than an MTB any more, but it rides pretty well and scores well for cheap and strong..

The vehicle reg. plates varied over time in layout and meanings, so different layouts mean different eras.
...
which suggests this reg plate was pretty old, as it fits that last pattern. I recall when T was the last letter, (denoting the year) it was way back in 1979/1980.Exactly. Which was my point. If its a UK plate starting with 3 letters, its more than 20 years old, which is probably not the correct era for the much newer ford minivan that I saw slam into carlito..
-
the details of the van: A Midnight Blue Ford Minivan plate number: JVB 08.....
Youve noticed thats not a standard UK number, right? That might not make it easy for yer average copper to find (trust me, I have many stories of how bad they are at tracking down vehicles even when provided with a full license plate..)
Hopefully the CCTV might produce something?

Glad hear that your OK this morning Carlos and Jordan. That was one of the scariest things I have ever seen.
+1 First thing I remember is a crunching sound and seeing carlos in the air. Dude. Im so glad youre both okay. That guy made no attempt to do anything except drive right through you..Fucking police. Whats the point in having them? Nice work reporting it though, Mr Crash. I'd be interested to know what the police say when you report it tomorrow.

Whereas in all the sports that use posts and a net, the decisions relating to whether a goal has been scored are always 100% correct?
It was 1966. Let it go...nobody else here is old enough to remember anyway :)
I think with cones theres always going to be a margin of interpretation. Its about whether we want to dispute goals over the location of an imaginary crossbar as well as the location of imaginary extended posts, which is why I tend to prefer infinity.
If we're going to agree on,say, shoulder height, should we have an agreed standard shoulder? Or can I get a dwarf on a bike, put them in goal and use them as a reference? I'm not against an agreed maximum height, as long as we're prepared for the inevitable arguments that come with judging that..
Incidentally, I think actual goalposts is a really interesting idea..Im not sure theyre practical for every pickup/league game though so I think we need to agree on some rules for the cones...

1-I'm all for infinity. Too many childhood memories of being in goal and shouting "over" at anything I couldnt reach. Unless theres a physical goalpost being used, as at some of the courts e.g.brick lane, any arbitrary height restriction is just opening up another way to dispute goals
2- business end only. anything else is a shuffle.
3-I'm not sure you can justify intentionally stopping a goal with your hand. Blocking a shot with your body is allowed. If we're playing "bums on seats",then maybe that should also include feet on pedals, hands on bars/mallet? So no kicking,swatting.etc..
;390828']The ball in the spokes/pocket thing seems pretty straightforward to me. Yes you can do it but be aware that any moves towards your wheel/pocket will be considered a play towards the ball.
+1..Id be impressed if you can intentionally jam the ball into your own spokes anyway
;390828']4. Ok we've discussed forfeits and will go with what's been said so far but what if a team gets suspended/drops out? Should the games they've already played previously not count and be erased from the scoreboards? Everybody's scores/goal differences?
If they havent played everyone, then I think erasing the points/GD for their games is the only fair way to play.
Muna and sarahjane naked, "lezzing out" and covered in bike stickers? You telling me you could resist?
