I got side tracked there twice this summer for quite some time while touring to Ukraine. Recently gave a friend this list, some of which you might be interested in.
Get hold of a copy of stressfaktor (free, or they have a website), a monthly listings zine for alternative/punk/DIY/political type things.
Kreuzberg-
- Collective bike workshop- Admiralstr. Off Kotbusser Tor Ubahn.
- Workshop where you can work on your own bike- on Laußitzerstr I think.
- Maroush Lebanese restaurant- Adalbert str. (near the Kottbusser Tor
station end)- does the damned best falafel sandwiches for 2.50E
*Bethanien (aka New Yorck59)- Mariannen platz, n.2- social center on the
first floor (a really lovely squat, great people...) - Tante Horst- collective cafe/bar on Oranienstr- makes good
cocktails, and does REALLY good all you can eat breakfast on
Sundays 3-7E. - Turkish Market by kanal(I think it is tues and fri)- good browsing, but
if you go around 6pm- they get rid of tons of stuff, you can take a box and
go around the back and ask... - Schwarzer Kanal Queer wagon platz- Micheal Kirchnerstr. Good bike
workshop with cake on Thursdays (might be possible to borrow klunkers they
have spare there). If you can get up on the roof of the old factory
behind= great view (especially at night), and the whole building is pretty
neat- broken down, lots of graffiti. They really aren't into 'tourists'- so the bike workshop would be a good time to go. - Kopi- fun punk shows/parties/film nights. (Apparently not what it used to be though- gone
more the way of dirt than DIY) - Cheap internet on Adalbertstr. red/yellow place on the corner.
- Kreuzburger- Oranienstr. Does really good Spinach burgers.
Prenzlauerberg-
- Subversiv- Brunnenstr. great bar, does really good Voku (should say when
it is on the back of stressfaktor) - Free Shop on Brunnen Str. opposit Subversive... has all sorts of shit,
plus interesting clientele. - Morgenrot- cafe on Kastanienallee (no. 84 or something)- collective run cafe/bar. Does good all
day, all you can eat breakfast 4-8E (what you can pay).
*Rigaerstr.- tons of squats- I think XB might have open bar with pretty
good tunes on Thursdays. Samariter str- also has quite a lot of place,
Fishladen had pretty good VOKU (People's kitchen= big plate of cheap food cooked by cool people. Stressfaktor lists where you can get it most nights of the week). - Collective bike workshop- Admiralstr. Off Kotbusser Tor Ubahn.

Another room up for grabs in our Holloway abode. Plenty of bike space (plus workshop space). From September. Preferably Student (to avoid evil council tax). Email asap (saskia at riseup.net) for more details. I am touring at the moment, destination Ukraine, so sporadic internet, but should be back end of August, so thought I'd put it up here first.

trampsparadise Do you mean the Camden Green Fair in June?
Nope, folks from various groups and individuals are cooking this up. Food Not Bombs has been serving food, with music and occasional free markets in Altab Ali park (end of Brick Lane) for the past few months and the ki idea kinda sprung out of that.

I got doored by a van in moving traffic a couple weeks ago. Nasty bruises and ugly road burn, but not bad considering and no real bike damage, just a smashed phone. I was expecting him to be a prime A-hole and was about to hurl abuse at him, but he was so shaken up and apologetic that I couldn't bring myself to do it. He gave me a ride home and me 100quid (far more than it was worth) for a new phone, and made sure I had his home address/mobile and license.
I was completely shocked that he was so sincerely apologetic and helpful... especially for a guy in a white van ; )
I suppose being a girl doesn't hurt in these situations.

Oh dear, that was a rather awful spelling. I was in a hurry...
Dates should be confirmed this Thursday, but it will most likely be mid-late June or mid July.
I'll post more details asap.
Great. I wanna learn wheelbuilding... so if that could be incorporated I'm be extra happy :)
Jeeze, judging my this post, I think my spelling improves with a few brews.

A free afternoon of music, food, free-market, workshops and hopefully more in a park is being planned for sometime in June/July.
Is anyone interested in being involved in/running a bicycle workshop/skill-share? Basic maintenance/knowledge to as advanced/adeventurous as you want/can go.

I learnt and biked on single speeds in Holland untill I was about 15. Then found a very beaten up peugeot mixte and rode that untill I realised everything was in dire need off replacing. Ended up riding my dad's far too big Claud Butler and a yucky mtb... was the happy borrower of a fixie in Vancouver (got a cushy job campus messengering) for about a year and a half. And now can't wait to convert my own Peugeot!

Usually avoid Murdoch but this was funny.
Fixers the new skaters?!

Apparently they have pretty awesome Critical Masses...I don't think it's every month, but the guy I stayed with
(from Warm Showers the tourers directory), had amazing footage of thousands of folks hoisting their bikes in the air. WS is great- meant we had a free place to crash and met a great local cyclist who showed us around on bike, knew the bike stores... I'm pretty sure he'd be up for recommending you some places at least, if you want his email, I'll check.
Definitely check out the flea market- there is an old guy who had some super nice old frames, and generally there are a couple other stands with interesting (and cheap) stuff.
Getting in and out of that city is hell- but if you can, the foothills to the north east, are amazing- and wine country... not a problem just camping out around there.
