Wow, what a helathy thread - thanks for all the help.
@laplusgourmande - I have a set of CrankBrothers Candy SL pedals, u know the ones - they are like eggbeaters inside a plastic shell (yellow, to match my saddle!) so I'll decline on the lovely offer of the eggbeaters - I think I'll get some in the future, but I'll start clipping in to what I have. I really appreciate the offer to wait until I replied! 31trum - they are yours!
I think I'll try with some cheap SPD shoes from Decathlon (£20), and then after a few days when they fall apart, and I'm a bit more used to it I'll fork out for a real shoe!
Thanks all!

I went fixed about a month after starting to ride properly in london. I had a peugeot road frame, then I bought a Bianchi Pista (which I sold on here a few days back), and then I converted that old peugeot to fixed and I ride that until my Mercian comes.
I've been riding fixed since January! So you can see how impressed I have been - I will never go back!

trampsparadise "These wheels were originally road wheels but have been re-dished and had new track spindals fitted."
...otherwise known as a suicide hub.
trampsparadise And they're tubs... Which to me isn't a big deal but I do like having a proper lockring.
Can u explain what u mean by Sucide? and also what 'tubs' are - I assumed it meant the Continental TUBular tyres seen in the pic??

I just won these wheels for £32 - I'm right in thinking that I have an absolute bargain right??? Can anyone tell me what's wrong with them, or has eBay finally come good???

I've been toying with the idea of getting a Mercian built for a while now; but I wasn't quite sure - £480 is a lot of cash, just for frame and forks - but it looked so fucking good when I went to the shop, and a friend convinced me when we were in there just to buy one. They measured me up on the jib and told me I was a 57cm (I'd usually ridden 54-55cm, but what the hell, these guys are pros). I have a long inside leg and a short body, so the bike will be kind of short and squat (seattube 57cm, toptube 55cm).
Then they told me it will take 20weeks! I suppose that's good, it means that they are popular, but it's hard to wait until September (end of the summer!!) for it - That's a lot of sleepless nights! :-)
I had a choice of 63 colours, and 2 styles of decals, one modern and one gothic, both of which come in a few variations (i.e. vertical etc.). It was hard to decide on the colour, but then I saw this, which came top in the fixed gear galleries 2006 best track bike.....
....and realised what I had been put on this earth to ride - A pearl white, hand-built track bike!! The above bike is almost identical to either the
So, now I have 20weeks to decide on the parts for it - any ideas? I fancy Dura-Ace, but then there is always Campag - or I could just mix and match what do u think???

I have taken the plunge and have had a Mercian hand built thus I need some cash. I have a Bianchi Pista '06 for sale that has been sitting around for a few weeks as it is way too small for me. I ride 57cm, this is a 53cm (bianchi 53cm, measured top to center I think).
The bike is pretty much stock, apart from a dashing set of yellow Schwalbe tyres. It now has no bar-tape or grips, but I will throw in an un-opened pack of Bianchi Green tape for those who may be that way inclined.... There are also no pedals with the sale.
Let me know if u are interested either in this thread, or via email (jon at editopen dot co dot uk) or phone (07773558993). There are some more pics here. I'm looking for £280, or nearest offer.... I just thought I'd offer it up here before Ebay so that she may get a lovely home as she is sexy and deserves a good ride! Which is more than I can give her with the new Miss Mercian on the way!

aidan so you would recomend buying the hub and rim seperate and just building it myself instead of buy a ready buit wheel?
It all depends how wide the rear drops are... It depends on its age - the usual rule is Road 130mm track 120mm, but there was a period in 70s when the just guessed in UK and France so sometimes they are 125mm, sometimes 135mm.
If yours is 130mm (which I'd say it will be), you will have to get a specific hub by Goldtec (there is thread in here somewhere about a 130mm hub...) But you could also get a 120mm hub nd flex the frame in.... depends how u feel about thframe and exactly how much you will be bending it (you might want to try cold-setting th erear stays down to 120mm, but don't do this more than once!)

I had soooooo much trouble with an old Dawes tourer - it took 27x1/4 wheels and they were damaged and bent when I got the bike (£19). I put normal 700c wheels on it and then normal shinamo brakes wouldn't fit! (too shallow). Then I bought Shimano RX100 caliper with 57mm drop and even that was too small and didn't reach the rim! The shitty Weinmanns that it came with are all that fit.
If you are going to ride it brakeless then don't worrk about it...

ok, cool, drop out space is 110mm on that hub u linked too - the bike I have that takes 27" is a 70s tourer with 132mm! That's a bit too much to ask for a 3oyr old frame to flex!
