Hi Alan, welcome!
For starters I'd recommend the following:http://www.sheldonbrown.com - I think he pretty much knows everything, so that's a good start.
http://www.parktool.com/repair - more know how
http://www.fixedgeargallery.com - to give you some ideas
http://www.hubjub.co.uk - for bits and pieces
I'm sure there will be many more suggestions on frames/parts etc, but follow some of the discussions on here and you'll start picking things up - certainly worked for me!
cheers,
brett -

Anyone up for a bit of a hilly spin round North London on Saturday?
Something like this, or possibly longer?http://www.bikely.com/maps/bike-path/41910
Go on, it'll do you good!

The fact they've come up with these 6 is clearly in response to the current backlash against Langsters - "Too boring, not individual, bought by unimaginative chumps who want to pose outside coffee shops" etc.
So in that respect, the point has been missed completely, and will net the owners of these new "off-the-peg-bespoke-fixed-gear" bikes even less respect from the more purist fixed owners/community than the current ones out there.
But Specialized themselves will be fully aware of all of this - I don't think they particularly care who buys them or how they're used. The bikes will shift like hot cakes and they'll make a fat load of money out of it, all off the back of the fact that it's currently cool to pretend to be a courier.Still, with all these new ones floating around, it might reduce some of my own Langster shame - "that's right - I'm dead old skool, me - straight outta 2005, this one..."

Yep, I've got directions all printed up which should see us right, but it proved too tricky condensing the entire map onto a side of A4 so I've got one of those separately. I'll definitely be there, and will definitely ride seeing as 9am is too early to dive for the nearest pub!
Now here's some interesting options involving Sod's Law:
a) Go and clean the bike up = definite rain and muckiness tomorrow.
b) Leave it grimy and mudguarded = glorious sunshine.Hmm...

Nice! Although unless you were pelting it down a hill or riding gears I'm gonna be a tad jealous of that kind of speed...
