RPM how many seriously just decided to ride fixed "for fashion" without having some prior contact in those areas?
When i got my first just over 2 years ago, i hadn't had much concept (and very little 'understanding'). I'd chatted briefly to people riding fixed and read a bunch of stuff online about it and as i had a bit of cash to get something cheap 2nd hand I thought i would try it out. It wasn't for 'fashion' i don't think - just out of interest.

velocity boy I think all forms of bicycle **enthusiasm **is dominated by men.
I think thats the key word. I reckon (obviously i cant prove it) that in terms of arses on bikes its fairly equal out on the road. But as a sub-cultural/hobbie/lifestyle thing cycling is much more for men than it is for women. So while there are equal numbers in popping down the road to get some milk on the bike, or even riding into work it is way more likely for men to splash out on bike 'stuff' than women.
Just from observation.
I do know gav is trying to convince my g/f to ride fixed tho ;)

Arnold Circus is pretty dead quiet, but its very very small. De Beauvoir square is bigger, no idea about traffic though as i have only been there a couple of times.
I'd come along for a laugh ;)

I want to see Quicksilver but can't find it :(

mashton:rkn - of course female, it's an old thing, started for ships, I think.
Yes but i always find it a bit odd ;) Acutally thought i'd find out about it - doesn't seem like there is a clear origin but [this article](http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/business/the_economy/138678.stm) has some suggestions, including:"As long as ships of every size and type require lots of paint to look good they will be referred to as a 'she', at least by me."

I bought a pair of pedals with clips 'n straps yesterday. I don't know if its just me, but its way harder than riding clipless! Maybe because i 'learnt' to ride fixed with SPD's I've developed all sorts of bad habits - like pulling backwards instead of upwards which obviously doesn't worth with clips.
Still there is something to be said about jumping off your bike in (semi)real shoes and not having to clump around in cycling shoes in Tesco's, so I'm going to try and stick with it for a while (even if I can't stop).
