3 channel TV was shite. 48 channel TV is still shite........apart from reruns of Dads Army.
Fat kids....something to do with remote controls I reckon....remember arguing about whose turn it was to get off your arse and change channel? Remember pre-push-button channel selection when you had to turn a dial. And didnt the sun always shine.........bollocks did it.

HTFU you great big tub of lard ;o) this may be your last chance to marathon before your fragile ageing and bloated corpse starts to rot away until a passing fart blows your dust into oblivion.
Does that hit the spot Mooks?!
I've got to drag my carcus out for a 5 miler at in an hour or so...gonna head in a new direction and plod across Hungerford Bridge to Tower Bridge and back......bored with St.James park x 4.
-
I got into FLM this year too Mooks. I'm gonna definately do the bastard and put it behind me. My last effort was 5 years ago and it fucked my right knee up so I'm taking an easier approach this time. Only 3 runs a week, 2 x 5 miles and a long Sunday run. I also cycle commute about 125 miles and sometimes do another 60ish weekend miles (if I'm not fecking running all day!).
Sounds to me like you also want to get this thing behind you..... If your doing a 1/2 in 1:50 (as I am) your in pretty good shape. You've 'only' got to do another 5 weekends worth of long runs, + do another couple of speedier runs in the week and you'll be fit enough to get round 26.2, maybe not to a potential PB time.....but at least you'll have a time to aim at if you want to do it again in the future? -

Some big miles there kipsy. Can't read it now. Were you on a deadline or something or just 'ride what I can' kinda thing?
EDIT: More respect for actually liking RP and riding 10+ laps of it. Yuk! Guess I need an ipod for those laps if I was to last that long.I had meant to take 10 days (100 mile days) but just got carried away. I paid for it later on the ride though. RP is ideal for mindless miles and I can pop home for a cuppa too.
Someone has probably already done it fixed. Putting an easier gear on your bike would help a lot. And 'simply' stick to 50 or 60 miles a day. Not sure if it would be much fun though. I'd recommend getting as many gears on your bike as you can Rusty, and using all of them!

ooh, ooh, ooh....I get to post me ole LeJog blog.....
http://kipperonabike.blogspot.com/
You lucky bugger...I can't wait to have another crack at it......tricky to get a whole week or more away from family though.
It would be interesting to try it fixed. Maybe need a month though!? -
The marathon distance is, in a way, a bit silly. It was never actually designed as a good distance for people to run.
Half marathons are far better in my opinion as I can actually attempt to race a bit (against my own times admittedly).
+1. the human body is designed to be able to run for approx. 18miles. After this distance your old friend Mr.Lactic starts to get rough and serious!!
Theres lots of marketing bollocks about running shoes, cushioning, support etc. Take a look at what the elite Africans train in, you dont see no thick 1" cushioned heels because they mainly run mid or forefoot so the foot, ankle, knee and hips all share the impact rather than the heel.
I get a much quicker 'buzz' from my 'running' (more like jogging) than I do from all the cycling miles I put in. But I've never had a cycling related injury(yet!).....whereas running nearly crippled me after my 1st marathon in 2005. I'm now 'training' for the 2009FLM, and my maximum weekly mileage will not be more than 15 TOTAL. Loads of cross/strength training and a whole heap of HTFU on the day and then I'm retiring from the marathon circuit and settling down to plod 2 or 3 times a week.
Moderation Hippy, take it nice and easy.

Popped into Sigma Sport to see a blue 56cm (I need a 58) and it was just what I expected.
Pity they didnt have the orange.....its still behind in the poll but I'm still undecided between it and the blue, with a slight slant to the blue, that will have reverted to the orange by tomorrow! What I wasnt expecting was to be dazzled by the titanium Sevens!.......I almost left a deposit on one (thats another story.....) but I restrained myself and walked away to sleep on it. But no. I'd rather the Colnago fully loaded over an entry level Seven with 105s (3000!). And titanium will eventually become a more common, easier to produce material by the time my Colnago is a lump of rust, surely? (By which time I will undoubtedly be past caring).
Oh, yeah.....the credit crunch - there wasn't much sign of it at Sigma Sport this afternoon, they were almost queuing round the block!
-
Oh yeah, the whole hog + any gear, all tax free. Maybe a new Chrome too.....in yellow to offset the orange?
The red is lovely. So is the blue. And the orange. Hence the poll.
Sad to say that I work for a company that employs 250 in London and I'd be surprised if more than 15 of them use this scheme, and those that do will get a 500quid hybrid. Praise the Lord, the guy in charge is a roadie, hence the no-limit issue.EDIT: when (if) my Langster finally breaks I'll get a fixed Merc or a BJ in fine silver. But my Langster just keeps going.
-
-
sorry to piss on the parade, but if it is the goverment funded cycle to work scheme, your only allowed up to 1k
negatory...to repeat, employers can apply for a special licence (costs 750quid) so employees can exceed the grand threshold.
Photobe: yeah, Langsters still goin strong on my commute...the Colnago will be my new summer sportive ride. Highend Campo group-set.
I love the blue and the orange, and was swaying to blue, but as I'm a contrary old fecker and the orange seems less popular I now kinda like it!! Thanks to you all.
EDIT - apologies for the slow reply, I'm getting a weak connection.....
-
Maestro can get them in any colour scheme Colnago have used apparently. See countless threads on other forums arguing the merits of getting a Colnago from Windwave vs Maestro.
If I was spending over 1k on a steel frame though I'd probably go with a British frame builder and get a full custom made to measure jobbie
....yeah, I know where your coming from, but I'm not an odd shape so off the peg is OK.....and I want my dream bike, and my dream Mercian would only cost about 1300 (vigorelli, fine silver with white decals, when my Langster breaks I wont hestitae to get one)....I want to spend much more than this to make the most of the tax-free-scheme.
Mrs Kipps says 'orange, the blue one is cheap and nasty, and where are the wheels'!!.

it'll not do the commute unless its bone dry and sunny, and theres no traffic! I've plently of dirty bikes for that kinda work. I dont think my employer will be bothered to check up on which bike i ride to work on.
Fruitbat, your bathroom should be any colour you like as long as its white. Or maybe yellow, so when you piss n miss it wont show ;o)

Hamilton simply hasn't earnt it yet, nor Becky Adlington.....Hoy stands out as a true champ after 12 long slogging years at it. what about Bobby charlton tho.....I've still got a tear in my ear.
Edit - TDF just doesnt register here, even when it starts in the UK! Cav will have his moment tho.
Vicky was on form.
Its not going to stop.
Accidents will always happen.
I hope shes(?) recovering AND I hope the lorry driver is OK too.
I cant believe he wanted to crush a cyclist under his lorry.
