Well the title says it all. The g'units bike was taken from the tip and done up. All is well apart from the fact that the wheels are buckled badly even after work with a spoke key and the rims are steel and hence have a bad braking surface. Only need threading for a freewheel, may keep the five speed on it may make it single speed. Rims only also considered.

Should make a nice convertion. Nicer frame then my gas pipe job which still rides well.

If you end up replacing the front wheel with a 700cc wheel I would recomend a drope plate (see sheldon again) if the current brakes do not have enough drop. The problem with brakes with very long drops is that they have a reduced mechanical advantage, if the current brakes have enough drop just use them as it saves some pennies but I would not go and buy some super long drop brakes.

RPM size 11s I had to bodge the toeclips to fit more outboard on the pedals and have the straps almost as loose as they will go.

I can usually get in on the second or third pedal stroke, when I started using them it sometimes took miles!

This was my bodge for the same problem. Long bolts and copper pipe from central heating system.

The shoe makes a big difference. I ran clips and straps for a while but my shoe of choice are skate shoes which are big and puffy and getcaught up, not nice.

I don't have a picture of the finished thing (it is all painted) but this is my chain tug for forward facing drouts, two bolts thread into the two holes and push onto the back of the drop out. Easy to make. I did use a welder but not it is not necessary.

Yep or buy the correct free wheel tool. There are load of diffrent one for diffrent free wheels, they are only about a fiver.

Yeah tips are perfect places for scanks like me. All of our kitchen chairs are from the tip, sannded down with some reupholstery and we have some good chairs. Just got a chair for living room too the other week halfway through doing that one as well.

Sign up to freecycle keep your eyes peeled (every day) for a month or so and you could be lucky. Or do what I do and go down your local council tip, they reguarly have old bike beeing thrown out, ask one of the attendants how much they want usualy a fiver will do and you can take it away.

ImOnCrank Fuck that DA tool, the chain on mine broke like fuck (not that I even bother with that shit at this point). Just buy the spanner and rotafix on and off, way easier.

+1. Thats the method I use. A good spanner to tighten the lock nut and rotofix for the cog, far more torque.

I think with most hobbies the enthusiasum is mainly from men. Men tend to have more of an obsessive personalities. At a guess I would say more stalkers are men?

Cool man. If I had the time I would love to tag along even though my surfing skills are a bit shit.

I will be a 5:30 till 6:00 ish arriver just for a quick drink. Nice drink outside. I will be there on a white geared Coppi, (ohh the ordasity!), with a horn. six foot odd tall geeky looking ginger, grade three crew cut.

pps. Photo copy the French pages from the storm rider guide. It is a good guide to get you started of places. I have a a copy but it is at my parents house at the moment.

p.s Hossegor has really hollow waves. I never surfed that beach it was a bit too heavy for me when I was there. I have not been surfing for about two years, such a shame, I was never any good but just a nice ride on a peeling wave is one of the best things. Shame London is so far away from the surf, plus time. Maybe soon.
