31trum managed to run over a fat pidgeon once, went pop, feathers all over the place.

I ran over a pigeon's head this morning - it was allready dead but not squished (must have been hit rather than ran-over). Sneaky bugger was lying in the road just around a corner so i didn't really have a chance to react once i had seen it.

i could be down for this - but think i need to get a fair bit of distant riding in between now and the ride to see how realistic my chances of making it are.

So how competitive are these events or are they a pretty relaxed type of affair. I'd like to try one but being a total novice to any sort of distance riding i don't really know what to expect - anyone know which one would be good for a first go?
