about 2 hours ago! only ridden from condor to tooting so far.
it's my first road bike and i couldn't be more happy with it it, everything feels 'right' about it.
i have been riding singlespeed off road and on-road for a while, just wanted something more suitable for commuting, gears are for fat people so a fixed was the obvious answer, i don't think i will just be commuting on it though :-) -

Fuji bikes are available for Annual (2007) rental of £35.00 only....meaning the bike will be reserved for your individual use only, you bring your own pedals which will remain on the bike all year.....it's a pretty good deal if you don't want to make the commitment to buying a track specific bike as they are significantly better than the other hire bikes....grab one quick to get one in your size.
As far as I am aware they are for use at HH only and apart from pedals no other mods can be made......A guy won the "B" league three lap dash final on one only this last Sunday!
Good to see so many people showing an interest in track racing last night.

Izumi... I know they do some very expensive chains but the one I get is £10.99, used them for years as a courier and race track on them too....never let me down....they're a very nice silver just like the more expensive ones, just wipe off some of the packing grease and don't oil for as long as you can....will keep it looking nice.....I always pair it up with a 1/8th dura ace sprocket....good match.

Harry Rowland is the best wheelbuilder in the London area without doubt, ask any South London racer of a certain age!
Builds wheels for certain "high quality" shops some mentioned on this post that they then sell on as built by them on their top end bikes and for their sponsored riders....
A hard man to track down (try googling him).....he'll talk you through what's best for your requirements and build to your type of riding (my courier wheels had different tensions to my race wheels).....if you're lucky he'll deliver the wheels on his motorbike!
Did I mention he's very reasonably priced too.
P.S. I've just discovered an excellent mechanic in the Stoke Newington / Finsbury Park area.....he retrued my road wheels and track race wheels today, he's got a workshop in a very small outbuilding of the Castle Climbing centre on Green Lanes.

Small flange dura-ace 36 hole are the best hubs I've ever ridden as a courier, 36 holes makes the wheel really strong, but the small flange gives a more comfortabe, compliant ride, large flange track hubs are for stiff wheels to ride on smooth tracks.....a bit harsh on the streets.
they don't have sealed bearings but in three years of working 5 days a week as a courier I had zero problems, also mine came packaged with optional circlip style silicon seals, which I put in, learning at the same time that Shimano use almost zero grease when building these hubs up (for minimal friction, I guess they assume you'll be racing on a track out of the rain) so when putting in seals it's a good idea to pack in as much grease as you can.....they are silver and look very classy if understated....it does say dura ace on them, if anyone's lookin!Goldtechs would be my second choice.

as a rule no. never ever at junctions with crossing/joining traffic. with pedestrian crossings (straight road, no crossing traffic) i sometimes slow down to a crawl look both ways then roll over slowly if there is nobody waiting to cross. everyone has their reasons for jumping lights backed up with arguments/statistics/accident avoiding examples but at the end of the day it pisses people off, is often dangerous and from talking to cabbies and other drivers is the main thing that makes them hate cyclists so much.
does it really save that much time? is it really worth it?
i once followed a RLJ from waterloo to stockwell, he nearly went under a police van at the old vic (it was on a call so didn't stop to nick him), caused a car to brake suddenly at lambeth north, got through the next junction safely. i then met him on a cycle route further on in stockwell coming round the roundabout the wrong way trying to join the same (narrow) exit as me, resulting in a "fuck-off".so why put yourselves in so much danger if it doesn't really save any time?
I'm not going to try to tell other people not to as it's down to them, i just really can't see the point in doing it.

i used to use a contra-flowcycle lane from chiswick to hammersmith roundabout, a kerbed off 1m wide strip of broken glass that would fill up with pedestrians because the pavement was too narrow for a high st. a waste of space.
the one down the middle of the traffic island southside of blackfriars bridge is a bit odd, you ride over peoples toes as they wait to cross. i used to use this lane when i started cycling, but there is a post in the middle which i always went to the right of, one evening i went left of the post but because of the a box for the pelican crossing button the gap is a little bit narrower resulting in clipped bars and me hitting the deck.
i stick to the road (mostly)
just refreshed my browser and it's gay pride week in london :-)
