Thanks everyone.
Yeah @kjlem, those seat stays are delightful.

Clamp-on caliper mount, like this one. Works reasonably well.

My first ride ever on a '50s bike. Rolls slow, but I think that's mainly the heavy 27 x 1 1/4 tyres.
The seller believes it's a 1958 Don Louis of Herne Hill. He had it renovated by Major Nichols in 1980. He also added a Unicanitor, '70s Cinelli bar and stem and a Campag seatpost and qr.
I've a few changes to make. The caliper is too deep for 27" wheels. I think I'll run it with two brakes. And I'll change the saddle. Happy so far.

Need a track bike for your prodigy? It's time to get rid of my kids' Islabikes Reis 26. It's in decent condition, with just a few nicks and scrapes. It was used and stored indoors. To my chagrin, they never took to track, so just messed around on the rollers with it.
From memory, I think they used it from ages 7-11.
Reynolds 525 frameset
155mm cranks
43.5cm seat tube c-t
Lots of adjustment: long seatpost and plenty of fork stack
26" (559c) wheels
Drilling/ braze-ons for front and rear brake
Bars for smaller hands
41x13 gearing, which I think suits Youth C restrictions.More pics here
